I think often times we are partial to the music of our youth. Especially in the rare instances of a band debuting before your very eyes and developing into something.
August and Everything After came out my senior year of high school in the Fall of 1993. I absolutely LOVE this album from beginning to end. I think it is an absolute masterful album. I can start at the beginning and listen all the way through and often do even to this day. I just listened to it fully about a month ago one night on my weekend. In the beginning sure the radio hits pulled me in. I liked Mr. Jones and Round Here. I still do enjoy those songs but honestly Mr. Jones is probably one of the lesser songs on that album for me in reality. Again I really enjoy every song but I think the true stars of the album are Anna Begins and It's Raining in Baltimore. I can't state it enough. Amazing album and what a strong debut. I did enjoy the follow up album Recovering the Satellites. Their third album This Desert Life I really only liked the song Colorblind and I basically stopped following them after that as I pretty much stopped following all new music after the year 2000 and stay willingly stuck in the past for the most part. I think undoubtedly like a number of bands that has their debut when I was in high school it remains their best album. I will always plays the hell out of August and Everything After. Maybe over my weekend one of those times I should give their newer material a listen. I didn't care much for that third album but maybe they rebounded some. Anyway great band, even if I basically only truly love them for one album and a couple other songs. --- PSN ID: sled_dogs76 60" Pioneer Kuro Elite PRO151FD, Yamaha RX-V3900 A/V Receiver, Oppo DV983-H player. When counting crows was becoming a thing I heard a radio interview with the singer where he talked about his poetry was so good he had to start a band to put it to music. That put me off of them for some reason. I always put them in the same category as Matchbox 20 and Collective Soul, just sort of bland and not for me.

I was somewhere yesterday where people had OAR on. I hadnt heard them in a long time and after googling a little I was kind of surprised at how popular they are for not really having any huge hits. Like, they tour really well and have a pretty loyal base still.
