LaTale - Chimera Lab
Taiko no Tatsujin: Kimidori Ver. - Necrofantasia ~ Arr.Demetori
Fire Emblem: Three Houses - The Apex of the World (Rain)

MATCH 1

Birdman is fine but not very interesting to me.

Chimera Lab has a cool futuristic sound to it. I like the arpeggios that happen from to time to time throughout the song. The main melodies are pretty solid too.

MATCH 2

We form in crystals has a neat backing melody with its somber arpeggios, but I don't really care as much for the main melodies for the most part. The violin at around 3:49 or so is nice, but I wish that melody was more developed. The fast-paced ascending notes from the violin elsewhere are not really my thing.

This is a really good metal arrangement of Necrofantasia. I also really like the original version of this, and the Demetori arrange keeps all the melodic stuff I like about it while putting it in a fun and energetic metal arrangement.

MATCH 3

Jeroen Tel has some pretty cool songs, and Robocop 3 theme is no exception! I don't tend to be a big fan of songs from NES games, but what I think I prefer about this song compared to other NES games is how much is going on in the song at once. The main melody is pretty nice as are the rapid chords underneath. Tel definitely did a good job of making a console with a limited amount of channels for music sound more full than other VGM tracks from that era!

Apex of the World is still good. Somewhat close match maybe? Both songs are kind of in the "good but not amazing" camp, but I feel like Apex of the World is more my kind of song.

Birdman
We form in crystals
Title Screen

Back to late voting. Such is a schedule...

Hey look, it's the best Pilotwings 64 song. This song is finely suited for the mode it plays on. Very relaxing, but in satisfying ways, I love this synth that reminds me of that early N64 era. These solos towards are a nice lemon on top of the drink too, and the ending is some nice nominations too. Really like this, very much. Ohh, Latale hitting with some neat techno. Very early 2000s Sonic reminsicent, it's never a bad time for that weeeooooow instrument. It's nice, not as nice as Birdman but enjoyable nonetheless.

Kind of an odd composition from Sakuraba here, but I enjoy this kind of folk approach. The drums is very neat! It's mysterious. I really like the little things the strings start doing at the middle of the song. This has won my attention back as it inserted more instruments in, finishing with a menacing ending. Great job! Well, Necrofantasia is on my top 5 Touhou songs, so this should be good... right? Unfortunately, it seems neither this type of metal arranges or Demetori manages to dent any sort of excitement onto me, lol. They sound like metal and stuff, yeah, I'm past the point where this causes any chemicals to activate. I just gotta vote Crystals here, which does a good number of interesting things. I don't hate this arrange but I also feel nothing for it.

Gosh, I love you Jeroen Tel. Despite not being C64, you can still feel it hasn't gone anywhere far. That intro is bonkers and I love hearing it every single time, and the rest of the song capitalizes well on it. Absolutely great stuff <3 Hello again, Apex of the World. An amazing use of the main motifs for an exciting endgame song. The intro vocals suits well the Three Houses touch as well, and the orchestration is on point. Had to end it with a tough one... well, I'm picking Jeroen! But both are great!! Silly B2, you were so cruel. I'm gonna enjoy whoever ends retiring, after all.

Chimera Lab
Necrofantasia ~ Arr.Demetori
The Apex of the World (Rain)

Birdman is as simple as relaxing lounge music could possibly get for the time. A nice keyboard synth, some nice bass, a cute xylophone to mix things up a bit, you can't really ask for more from a chill tune like this.

Chimera Lab is just going off on me right now, coming like a mix between Super Monkey Ball and Mega Man Battle Network. I'm loving the energetic synth work here, giving off the fun futuristic vibe this is feeding me with. God, Is all of LaTale as good as this?

I'm not sure if I'm familiar with the ambient/atmospheric side of Sakuraba stuff; We Form in Crystals feels pretty interesting though it doesn't entirely gel with me for some reason.

This Touhou remix is honestly pretty cool with some nice electric energy coming from the guitar, and there's some nice backing instruments to give the song a little more atmosphere while giving the guitar some room to breathe. Pretty fun overall.

No disrespect to Jeroen Tel, but the NES version of Robocop 3 Title was NOT the way to go. The main synth that kicks in after 20 seconds sounds way too high-pitched and rough compared to the smoother one that's used in the C64 version. That's the one I wish that got in instead, THAT'S the C64 retiree that would be awesome to see happen.

No matter how many times, I hear it, Apex of the World is just a really good battle theme. Not the best FE song I've heard, but surely it's good enough to keep hearing it constantly in these contests, right?

no, only the first 100 or so songs, then it's less good barring some exceptions

Pilotwings 64 - Birdman: Pretty chill and enjoyable. It doesn't really progress much further than that, but what's there is all good.

LaTale - Chimera Lab: Somehow reminds me of Mario Kart Wii, which is always a plus. A bit repetitive and hurts my ears if I don't keep the volume low, but it's fun.

Star Ocean: The Second Story - We form in cystals: I wish the melody was clearer. They really didn't need to spam the symbols that much either. Otherwise pretty cool song with nice strings.

Taiko no Tatsujin: Kimidori Ver. - Necrofantasia ~ Arr.Demetori: Pretty epic, but I don't care for the melody too much. The guitar goes really hard in the middle of the section though.

RoboCop 3 (NES) - Title Screen: Pretty epic for an NES song. I can appreciate what they did with the limited technology at the time. Very repetitive though and not really my thing.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses - The Apex of the World (Rain): Not even my favorite FE final boss theme, but it's really solid. Easily the best song today.
