An artist gets his start online by drawing fetish art, some of which is particularly lewd and explicit, featuring many characters across media and even original creations, gaining him an avid audience within that niche. While the nature of the art is not illegal or amoral, many would find it weird to various degrees. That said, the more he draws, the more his skills improve and he begins to develop his own style.

Eventually, he feels that his skills have improved significantly enough so that he can pursue professional work, and is successful in this endeavor as well; now operating under his actual name, he is constantly getting work on popular, mainstream projects. During this time, his fetish art platforms have not been updated at all, and he had all but abandoned them in favor of focusing on his professional career--not even acknowledging their existence--but left those platforms up for the sake of the fans of his old art.

However, some sleuths online notice similarities in the artstyles of his professional work and those of his old kink art, and through other subtleties and details are able to almost-definitely link both the fetish artist and the professional artist as one and the same. Soon, it begins to gain traction among various social media platforms, and even his professional contacts are starting to ask questions.

In this situation, what would you do if you were in his position?

This guy isn't very smart. There's so much more money to be made by sticking with fetish art than by going professional

Depends on the fetishes, but assuming they aren't illegal or actually problematic and the only questionable thing about them is that they're horny, just leave 'em.

Way back in the day when frequenting webcomics was a thing, I liked VG Cats and Chugworth Academy, among many others. The fact that the artists for both turned to furry porn and horrible guro crap respectively made me completely disinterested in their work going forward.

---
Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.

I guess it would depend on what the art is. As far as if it fetishizes something illegal.

Had a friend who was paid to make art by furries and voreish and alien fetish ppl.

She wouldnt sign stuff like that. The one guy who commissioned another chick to paint furry, he actually got banned from the art site. He was spending a lot of cash to pay anyone to make OCs.
Was he banned because of the commission requests he was making, or for other reasons.

Leave it. Honestly, i find this kind of scenario as puritan and strange that anyone even cares. Even if the art was amoral, it's just drawings.

I'd own up to it. But I guess it depends on the fetish. If it's something truly vile idk

Huh, you may have missed out. The guro was a one-off thing during Chugworth's run; last I checked, he was doing the most vanilla of vanilla, which is what made me disinterested.

If smart, they'd maintain both. Keep the professional one for its own income. Hit the random gold mines with fetish art.

Sooner or later they'd cross paths, which is why keeping both maintained under seperate names would make the most sense. I'm pretty sure I've actually seen something similiar, but the who eludes me.

Separate names won't hide any identities when people recognize your style, though it's still good for keeping your customer bases from mixing in uncomfortable ways.

Simple... don't post fetish art. I never have so there's nothing to track.

I also don't make it, so there's that.

In my day (and still in my mind), its irrelevant. Id own it and tell anyone who didnt like it to bugger. But in 2024? Whole professional career is likely screwed, and neither admitting or denying will help. Best approach is to simply not acknowledge it, no matter how rabid people online get.

Yeah, that's what I meant. It'd mostly be to keep them semi seperate so that if someone were to search your professional art up, there'd be less chance of finding the smut. Ofcourse they'd probably find the subreddit post where ppl call you out thanks to google.

Those that know would know, it'd just add an extra step/layer for anyone who wants to avoid it. That's why I'm pretty sure I've actually seen this type of thing and actually thought this topic was about a specific person.

Everytime something like this pops up I'm always like "who cares" seems like one of the biggest non-issues ever

That said best thing is probably don't use the same name for that stuff that you do in the professional world, then just ignore anyone making the connection between the two. If it comes up in a professional setting it'll be easier to deny or explain the separation if you do that
