Well, that depends: when they role out this feature, do you want or need Microsoft to take screenshots of your computer screen to use with AI? Do you trust that only you will have access to this data and that it will be private? If you answered "no" to either of those questions, then you need to know this is coming so you can disable it and use your computer privately and securely.

Ignoring the privacy, legal, and security concerns, I fail to see the value-add for having Copilot hep you look through screenshots taken every few seconds of what you were doing before.

All this is going to be is an AI screenshot and search function. You can't roll back to what you were doing before, you can just look at it.

As opposed to the current system, where they're already doing all of that?

The only difference is now they can charge the consumer an extra fee to access their own information they were going to be mass collecting anyway.

I'm worried this feature might end up being used by hackers to steal other people's passwords.

What evidence do you have that Windows is currently taking a screenshot of your screen every few seconds?

The feature hasn't been rolled out yet, and is currently planned for Windows 11 only so more details don't seem to be known.

This will be good for businesses tbh. Saves needing to buy a third party tool to do it.

Turning off Telemetry in W11 isn't even really turning it off. Even if you can silence the new AI, I doubt it stops it from accomplishing it's system-root goals of snooping out your data.

I switched to Linux two years ago and haven't looked back once. Absolutely bugnuts what Windows is like these days, and sadly, the casual end-user dgaf.

I haven't seen anything to suggest this is being designed for businesses. The data apparently will be encrypted and stored locally and tied to the logged in account. But even if that can be changed, the business value would be minimal. Companies can already log key presses, log used software, and log all internet activity with less of a performance penalty and using less disk space.

What, exactly, is supposed to be the value for anyone?

Its Microsoft. Theyll find a way to monetise it eventually. And yes there are other tools out there. But Microsoft will do their usual thing of making it free then when enough people sign up charge for it.

You have to pay to turn it off. It's a subscription.

This is going to lead to some epic level trolling. It will destroy Co-pilot to the point Microsoft will have to kill it.

while it's a shitty feature it's also a shitty feature that only functions on a CPU type most people don't have and will never use, from what I can see. Not to say they won't try to weasel it in for everyone but hey, small blessings.
