So many games have it nowadays. Especially live-service ones. I don't have much time to game as I used to

I just buy the games I want and play the games as I play them.

buy them and refund them if you dont like them that is what i do

steam has 2 hour refund period. so i just blitz through the early sections

I buy games when I'm ready to play them. I don't have a backlog.

I just buy the really cheap games when they go on sale in the store. As a result I have 40 games I haven't played yet.

But what about those games with battle-passes and limited-time events. I'd cut some of those out but then the sunk-cost fallacy kicks in.

Just focus on the series you like. And drop them if they nosedive. Like, its not that hard.

Only look for new stuff when you have new time.

I am not one to talk mind you because my free time has decreased, and so I have a backlog with mostly just old series and such.

Don't play those games at all. You recognize that they prey on fomo, so don't reward them.

Even physical games are suffering due to scummy companies like Limited Run using FOMO to entice preordering their junk which would take nearly a year to arrive. They're the same people who thought it's a good idea to produce physical 3DO games in 2024, only to cheap out and burn them to CD-Rs.

Also if you miss out on one event, you're free. You've missed out, so there's no point in trying not to anymore. Purposefully skip an event and you'll be good~

Eh, fomo doesn't really affect me. Hell, those daily log in things? Fomo from those apparently helps push people to the cash shop, you miss a day or two and you're supposed to feel like you need to catch up. Me though? I miss a day and figure I'll never catch up again and thus uninstall the game.
