but ya, there's a LOT of great games on it.

The battery life on the Color was a huge improvement when upgrading from the Pocket

Seemed like I was constantly asking for more AAA batteries

it was pretty much indestructible too

i remember dropping mine down a flight of concrete steps, crying while i chased after it because obviously it would be broken now, and there wasn't even a fuckin scratch on the thing

I just gave mine an AMOLED screen mod. It's incredible.

sorta... basically the battery clip or whatever is loose so putting any pressure on the center of the GBA (very very easy to do since that's where the start/select buttons are) will disconnect the battery, reseting the game.

Hmm, it sounds like just taking it apart and putting it back together might do the trick. Just to get everything back snugged up. It isn't too scary once you have the tools!

Their handhelds kept getting better. If you had an advance, it would play those games.
The Wario land games get talked about. Of course Zelda and Pokmon games get talked about.
The Mario tennis game on there is amazing!

Speaking of other GB games...

There's a puzzle game by Atlas called, ehhh, Kwirk (IIRC) and I noticed something about some of the puzzles... they were reused in SMT: Nocturne! cool!

Also: If you like technical stuff; check out Prehistorik Man. His walk cycle is amazing, the sound track is boppin' and the bosses (except the final boss) have outstanding sprites... best sprites on the gameboy perhaps

I think the only GBC exclusive (aka chubby) cartridge I had was Donkey Kong Country

Then the far superior GBA version came out

y'all owe it to yourselves to check out Little Nicky on the Gameboy Colour, yes, the Adam Sandler movie

it's everything horrible and great about that generation of handheld games. The gameplay is absolutely horrid, but the presentation is exceptional. Consider early licensed games of the GBA such as Totally Spies or later on Spy Kids which don't look good at all... Little Nicky, on the GBC, BECAUSE they had to cut it down to the limitations of the GBC, managed to make one of the goofiest and yet sillilly charming visuals of all time.

Harry Potter 1 and 2 on the Gameboy Colour are very well animated with excellent backgrounds! ... game sucks. Also, when you defeat an enemy they 'walk away' to represent being defeated and not killed... this is thematically ok, but it results in something very silly for the Aragog boss fight since the boss is a backdrop (perfectly valid technique), but when you win his pedipalps just walk off :D

Another example; Resident Evil 1. Has absurdly good animation and set design, better than most GBA games ... ... game sucks!

Bomberman Quest; Slowest RPG of ALL TIME... boring start, lame graphics; ... Absolutely intense endgame!

Daikatana on the GBC? ..... ... actually a good game

Nah, it was mostly just an interim unit. Didn't offer enough over the OG/pocket, and fell well short of the Advance.

One of the reasons I'm thinking on buying one, lately. I sold my original one many years ago.

And yes, the OP is right: underappreciated. Amazing catalog with many titles that still hold very well.

While not GBC related (persay, since I'm talking about DQ1+2 on GBC), I must say that even though Dragon Quest 2 was my least favourite as a kid, analyzing it now it's super underappreciated (by me at least)

It has so many things I like about this era of RPGs, things that would be toned down for DQ3 and non-existent DQ4 and up

I feel like people lump the GBC together with the regular Gameboy so it gets kind of lost in the shuffle as technically being its own thing with exclusive games for it.

I just ordered a copy of DWIII for GBC, such an amazing version. I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for DW1+2. Really excited to see III on the OLED screen.

This looks like a good comparison between the 3D and 2D versions. There are different ways to play each of those respectively, but that'll be your first choice, choosing between the SNES/Genesis era or the PS2/PC era remakes.

i actually haven't played the 3/4 remakes

I remember for a birthday I got a GBC and the first game I was gonna get was one of the pokemons(blue or red) but the guy at toys r us told me they wouldn't appear in color on the GBC, being original GB games. So I bought a hockey game I didn't like much. When I did actually get the Pokmon games I was so mad when I found out they were in color(not full color, just red and blue hues I think)

The amount of color it adds is great! Typically with Pokemon Blue the background color will be blue with the character in red. Red is the opposite I believe.

Mod your 3DS! It's so worth it. I love the Crystal version on 3DS; they restored the Celebi event.
