Almost certainly. I hang out with a lot of ex-convicts. Though I've never really asked them about their experiences.

I dunno, just seems their criminal record would be an awkward thing to make small talk about.

Not with one of those tasers that shoot out the wires and hooks. Just a regular one and it was done by my uncle at my request. He used to be an international truck driver and bought one to keep in his truck for protection.
He was talking about how he really wanted to try it out and I volunteered but only if it hit my arm and nothing else. He did it for about 5 seconds. Wasn't particularly painful, just felt every nerve and muscle in my arm spasm. Can see why people would instantly hit the floor if you hit them in the torso or legs with it though.

oh, so your job and stuff frequently hires guys with criminal records and stuff?

It's a church, actually. It got founded by an ex-convict and his buddies and just sorta ended up growing in that social circle. A couple times a year, a bunch of the churches in the area meet up and there are generally a lot of people from that church present.
