It was alright. I miss Caesar, though. Rise, Dawn and War were all better films.

Confused at the end. Do humans live on the moon now? Also Freya Allan is cute, might be my new celebrity crush <3

Bring back Caesar with the Dragon Balls fam!

I thought it was better than Rise personally, but I really enjoyed this movie. Seems like it could be the start of something that could bring up the quality like Dawn and War did after Rise. Definitely felt like they were really setting something up.

Yeah as much as I love Rise and think its a phenomenal movie, rewatching it makes it feel like its all just setup to get to the post apocalyptic setting that the rest of the series focuses on.

So I agree that Kingdom is better than Rise, but probably not as good as Dawn or War. Id have to rewatch Kingdom down the line for a better stance, but on a first watch I think Dawn and War are better films.

I'm glad I didn't see War until a few days ago. Didn't have to wait long for Kingdom at all

After having been used to Caesar, it's a bit hard to get invested in these new apes. The main ape antagonist also feels like a Saturday morning cartoon villain. I would say the movie picks up when Noa and Mae get captured, even though I was dozing off at the dinner scene (tbh I didn't get enough sleep the night before). Seeing Noa and his two ape pals work with Mae was fun. The flood scene was exciting. The ending with other intelligent human survivors being uncovered and Noa seeing something in the sky nicely sets up sequels.

It feels awfully convenient that Noa and his ape pals stumbled upon a book with apes in a zoo at the place with the human resources, though. I liked that they learned how apes used to be treated but still. Proximus Caesar is as mediocre of a villain as it gets. I'd give this a 6/10.

I think they are building towards a remake of the original with Dr Zaius and everything. They'll probably make it a whole trilogy.

Mae is an unlikable person imo. She really had the gall to tell the apes that humans deserve to be the ones ruling Earth. Just what should the apes do, then? Go back to being held in cages?

Ideally, the apes and humans should reach an agreement and live together in harmony. But if that's not possible, they should just fight for themselves. Humans for humans. Apes for apes. You can't expect one side to sacrifice itself for the other.

I thought they did a good job of being even-handed about it. This girl has lived her entire life being told all the stories about the way in which humans used to live all while "intelligent humans" have been hunted to near extinction. Why wouldn't she hold a grudge and want to ensure her species can rebound?

Just like how Noah wants to ensure his clan exists and continues to live their life.

Ultimately both have lived their entire life being told that the "other" is terrible and needed to be avoided. When given the opportunity to ensure they will thrive, why wouldn't they take it?

It's fine for them to selfishly want their own side to succeed at the expense of the other but to actually tell the other side is stupid because they're obviously not going to agree. "Go back to your cages and let my race prosper" is an insult.

It's because they both have some respect for each other. They're both questioning everything they've been told but they don't want to be stabbed in the back. So they openly discuss it and kinda come to a consensus of like, "I'm gonna give you the chance to see what happens next. I am gonna trust you but also tell you why I don't just blindly trust"

The third act was weaker than the first two, to me.

the first act was the weakest imho. hard to get used the new cast and setting. this new trilogy looks promising but it's not gonna measure up to the last one

ultimately the humans and apes need to reach an agreement. they are in many ways the same; humans are apes and apes may as well be humans as long as they're intelligent. the best ending for the franchise would be like battle's, where apes and humans both have intelligence and live together. they're still a ways off from living in total peace, but things are peaceful enough that they can coexist in the same society without total chaos. just like humans in the world today

I think an asteroid is gonna wipe out everyone on Earth in one of the upcoming sequels lol

I kinda felt bad for the villain tbh

Sure he was a jerk (for no real reason too)

But "Hey I want cool shit from that vault so we can build a new society for Apes" is not an evil goal at all. Hence why they had to make him and his heavy needlessly cruel

I don't really get why Noa just gave up on all the knowledge of the vault and was like "Nah we gotta go back to wooden huts and bare hand farming"

Dudes didn't even know what an axe was.

I really think Noa was too quick to forgive Mae. She literally almost killed his clan by causing the explosion that led the flood. The kid apes and even his own mother nearly died because of what she did.

What was the alternative for everyone? Since the plan went sideways (or were they suggesting she told Proximus the plan and just turned on everyone?) they were all gonna die if she didn't blast the dam.

Proximus wasn't gonna kill all the apes; he was planning to just kill the remaining intelligent humans with the weapons in the bunker. Some apes would have died in the ensuing war, but Noa could have still taken his family to safety before that happened.

Mae is right to protect her own kind, but Noa isn't part of her kind. He has no reason to forgive her for almost killing his friends and literal mother.

He would have killed Noa. His girlfriend, his mom, his best friend and enslaved the rest of the clan.

He also then would have become a powerful enemy for Mae and the rest of the humans.

She didn't really have a choice. Noa telling her not to do it was an emotional reaction to not wanting to risk his clan.

Did they ever explain why the apes with masks (Proximus legion) were going around killing and enslaving apes and humans in the first place? And why Caesar specifically was the inspiration for their jihad?

He wasn't going to kill Noa or anyone from his clan. Noa inadvertently helped him gain access to the weapons and if he was going to kill him and his girlfriend, then he would have done so instead of making Noa choose between his girlfriend and Mae.

As long as Noa didn't act up and obeyed Proximus, then he wouldn't have to worry about himself or anyone he cared about getting killed.

Ceaser needed his Rome.

but yeah it was weak writing to make an otherwise understandable villain into an villain evil for no reason

Apes for labour & humans... probably for sport.

Their inspiration isn't from the ape Caesar, but from the Roman emperor.

Yea, it was that guy who's name I forgot who taught Proximus Roman history from the books. But then again, I just remembered he also chanted "ape together strong" which was ape Caesar's teaching, so idk anymore lol.

Ok I jogged my memory again and remembered Proximus knew that ape Caesar was the first elder.

So I'm guessing that he sort of mixed both Caesars together and adopted his own version of Caesar.
