Bruh, this ain't it. They're "one word" made of two words. It's really not a big deal.

I'm not lore buff myself. I appreciate the flavor but it's toward the bottom of the list in what I like about media.

I don't really care that Raiden was a child soldier in Libya, I care that I rip a cyborgs spine out of his body and crush it between my fingers for extra HP.

The first time I remember being annoyed at this personally was with Warcraft. The manual has a scribble of "half orc garona" except the time line made it impossible for a half-orc to be an adult.

Someone at Blizzard obviously noticed this because they would later retcon this in World of Warcraft and say she was actually half-orc/half-dranei which I thought was dumb as hell

They re-retconned it again in the Warcraft movie by saying Medivh crossed the dark portal and sired her there years before the orcs invaded and it's one of the things that I really liked about the movie.

So like, I do kinda care about it, I guess.

Fallout and Fall out are two very different things.

One is the result of nukes, the other is what happens when you sit in an open helicopter without a seatbelt that gets major turbulence.

Brotherhood and Brother hood are two very different things.

One is an association, society, or community of people linked by a common interest, religion, or trade, the other is your brother's hood on his hoodie or jacket or other hooded article of clothing or perhaps the hood of his car or the neighborhood where he (your brother) lives.

May be it's cause i'm tired, but i was thin king more that there's a hood, sort of like the talk ing hat in Harry Potter, but a hood.
And that hood is some ones brother

When did that change happen? Kinda feels like a cop out, to use a change that happened before the internet. Also, are we talking actual lore for them or some random story before they were established?

1999. Though they got their first proper codex in the early 2000s. All mentions of Chaos Androids suddenly went poof with little to no explanation, if I recall correctly. It has been a while after all.

Depends what your measure of 'good writing' is.

'Is enjoyed by the intended audience' is not a bad measure.

Most people don't want to talk about the technicalities of literary 'good writing' (stylistic aspects, imagery, use of tone, layering of meaning, etc.), and instead focus on vague, highly subjective terms like 'respect', and 'heart'.

I've seen a fan theory which points out that the only source we have for this in TOS is a crazy woman, therefore it wouldn't necessarily be true. No, there are no female captains in TOS. There are no black or Asian captains, either.

really it was just one of the many sexist views gene had (reminder he was NOT who made TOS good)

Then I'll say no but also yes. I don't think we need to gatekeep what's a bridge too far for people to dislike something; someone can dislike or not be into an adaptation for whatever reason they want, even if it's something as nebulous as a vibe. On the other hand, I do think accepting that adaptations aren't going to be 1 to 1 and being willing to compromise with your vision of the series to experience another that could also be a lot of fun if you let yourself like it is going to make you happier in the long run.
