Yeah, if it's under a 6/10 or a 7/10 that's enough to take note on if it's purchased, but most people get too focused on either specific scores and/or how they relate to other games.

I still maintain that the shitshow with GameSpot's 8.8 Twilight Princess score never would have happened if they gave it a 9.0, which is even ridiculous since that point difference is too small to begin with.

I would never focus on a single review at all, and even if you look at only a single review the actuall pro and cons are more important than the score.

I mean, there is a review of Stellar Blade like this:

+ Combat is phenomenally fun and satisfying
+ Absolutely incredibly music and soundtrack
+ Stylish and slick animations
- Exploration is often unintuitive and tedious
- Re-used boss fights and encounters
- Poor story
- Two-dimensional characters

Total score: 6/10

Duh. Action game with "phenomally fun Combat", "incredible soundtrack", "slick animation".

6/10 would be a close to a waste of time for me, not "phenomally fun".

Its as if reviews are based upon the quality of the games design rather than the subject. Kinda like people complaining when nintendogs got 40/40 from Famitsu just cause it was a cute ds game.

Honestly, I have a hard time to balance something like this myself.

What's the scope for a full score? Being the best in the genre (with no flaws), or in a wider sense?

With a 8/10 I would already say that it's a good game for fans of the genre, but wont be a hit for others. With a perfect score I would assume that it's a game able to reach and impress people even outside the genre.

And now we have Nintendogs in the center of all of it.
