I think it's like that certain word/slang for female genetals, where it's bad here, too offensive there, but lightly used as a term of endearment in Australia. Got so used to teabagging in Halo that it became a reflex. Then later, I instinctively did it to some rando in Metal Gear Online and he fucking LOST IT. Ended up on my team the very next round but killed me twice anyway before getting booted out the game.
