The middle of the ocean isn't exactly the human's natural habitat. When you're there and underwater, being a little on edge is already reasonable. And there's just open water where things can approach from any direction, unlike land where at least "below" is off limits. Now throw in any huge-ass beast, and being scared shitless is perfectly understandable even if it's a huge-ass beast that you know isn't aggressive by default.

I completely understand and agree. Being stumbled upon by a huge whale in the middle of the ocean and nowhere to run or hide is an absolute terror. Even if theyre just saying hello

There are documented cases of large whales protecting divers from other large threats, usually sharks. Theyre highly intelligent, like elephants or dolphins. Theres also never been a human death by an orca in the wild. All human deaths by humpbacks and sperm whales were completely accidental.

It's like a harambe situation though. On the surface it looked like harambe was trying to protect the kid but kid was still getting dragged around like a gorilla kid and not a human kid. Even if the animal means well I still wouldn't fuck with things that can kill me just by doing normal non-aggressive shit.

although Jellyfish are incapable of thinking they can sort of hunt by detecting which direction bio-emissions are coming from.

Jellyfish are like a slightly more evolved slime mold.

Slime molds are really fucking good by the way at optimization of finding food. Some guys in Japan did an experiment where they put food on a map of Japan proportionally to the population density and then put a slime mold on it and the shape the slime mold finally settled on had a huge overlap with the train tracks all across Japan.
