It used to always fuck with inmates when I'd know their name. Often times it was because I handed them mail and it just stuck in my mind or I had written the up before. But there was a lot I just knew their name cause I'm a nosey bastard and I'd take a roster home with me and look them up.

Was always funny to me to see their reactions when I'd call them by name and they didn't realize I knew it.

Yeah, I've known people like this and she probably sees you as a potential rapist or stalker, she's probably already convinced and talking shit behind your back to get you fired to "protect herself".

It sucks, it's probably born out of a traumatic experience with an actual stalker/rapist. But you need to protect yourself as well. HR needs to know this person isn't right in such a way that could be threatening to your livelihood.

I know the feeling TC, it feels awful when you make a girl creeped out by doing literally nothing. I've 'guessed' people's names I'm working with when I recognize everyone else but one person. It's not a weird thing you did. She's immature to think that you're somehow stalking her or something to deduce her name like that.

It's probably everything to do with her and nothing to do with you. Maybe she was really stalked before or even at her previous job and is just on high alert. Maybe she just likes the idea of not liking you or wanting a 'creep' to hate on in her life. Maybe you remind her of someone. Regardless, all you can do is talk to a supervisor about it and give her space and distance. Ignore her random side glances, she'll eventually see that you're there to work.

Honestly, if she gives you the vibe that you are stalking her for deducing a co-worker's name, then you really should have thrown it back on her by making it clear she was acting immaturely.

Sometimes people just need to be checked in order to bring them out of their own little world into the one we all occupy together lol

Even though I'm pretty sure TC did nothing wrong other than maybe having creep energy that he's not aware of, it would be hilarious if there is some really terrible stalker behavior that he's doing and hasn't told us about, and he winds up getting arrested or something.

Bruh, I made this topic to vent. Saw the first few replies agreeing with me so I left feeling satisfied that I did nothing wrong. I didn't expect this to still be up a week later lol.

Sorry for the disappointing update but all I did was let a supervisor know about it and they told me to not worry about it, that I've been here long enough and never had a complaint against me. Ever since then I tried my damn hardest not to be in her general area so there's nothing new between me and that girl and I intend to keep it that way. And talking to a few coworkers after that day (not talking about to them about the incident, just talking to them about whatever we normally talk about) a few of them mentioned that the new girl is odd, that she would routinely talk to herself.... >_> obviously I can't confirm that myself since I'm purposely avoiding her but the fact that different people randomly brought that up and told me the same thing tells me that they're probably telling the truth. And I'm not going to lie, I felt satisfied knowing that in actuality she's the weirdo and not me.

Thankfully I've never had anything like the first experience happen, we had 4 new starters (graduates) at work a while ago and when I saw one of them I said, "I assume you're Sarah, right?" She said "yes, how did you know?" to which I pointed out that the other three new starters were called Steve, Matt and James, so by process of elimination I assumed she was the Sarah.

She laughed it off and was actually quite fun to work with, we both smoked (at the time) so ended up becoming work mates.

Matt and James caused a lot of (unintentional) confusion though - they were identical twins and our manager got them mixed up when he introduced them, you could see they wanted to speak up but didn't want to be rude. They ended up regularly being called the other twin for a couple of days until they started wearing completely different coloured shirts so you could tell them apart. They'd got so fed up of being mixed up that they had gone out that weekend and bought a number of outfits completely different from each other.

I'm a millenial and I've taken it as like "cool story bro" from people before.

I've had to learn to not take it that way as my supervisor does it alot when you reply to a message she sent you.

Damn I use thumbs up all the time. I even use a skin-tone appropriate one.

I would be very reticent to stop giving a thumbs up, although I guess it depends on the circumstance.

"I'll call you back at half 2" - thumbs up makes perfect sense.

"I'm off work today, dog's just died" - thumbs up is arguably inappropriate.
