It's a lot better than it was at launch but unless you really go all-in on the multiplayer aspects it's a solid 6/10 Bethesda Fallout experience. I like the setting though it can get a bit monotonous, and the quests are mostly boring.

Yes it's worth playing now. I've put 180 hours into it and had a lot of fun.

Literally no point when even Fallout 3 and 4 are right there.

Yes

It's better with friends, but solo is enjoyable too.

All the expansions are free, the season pass rewards are free and earned through gameplay, and at this point there is a metric ton of shit to do for a new player.

The community is generally helpful and welcoming.

There is a subscription, but it's not necessary if you don't want it. It does give you extra rewards on the season pass, bottomless stash boxes for junk and ammo, and access to private servers, which you can invite friends to.

Most of the stuff you can buy with real money is strictly cosmetic, and you can earn ALOT of the shop currency through gameplay.

It's built on the Fallout 4 engine, so if you don't like that game you probably won't like this, but i feel it's different enough that it's not a big deal. The map is massive and beautiful and great fun to explore.

I'd say if you can get it for cheap or free, definitely give it a shot.

yeah, there are a lot of quality of life improvements over the 4 system. i also found the fact that the storytelling is more like the older games and not like the dialogue-heavy scripted piece of shit that 4 was is very refreshing. also all the updates seem to improve the game steadily over time, which is fantastic. i do recommend it if you're into the newerish Fallout games.

Fallout 3 is just a worst New Vegas and Fallout 4 kind of has a bit more janky limits despite the same engines being used.
