Why I gotta do 1-2 frame links to combo two moves together?

If I knock a guy into the air Why can I follow up with only 2 different moves?

If you play online and see [X character] they are going to do only 1-3 combos. And every other [X character] that you see will do those exact same ones

Like just let people have fun and do whatever combo they want. Why do none of these games have any freedom at all?

Balance & gameplay reason. If you could follow anything with anything, some (or all) chars would be way too overpowered.

Online players have a habit to maximise their damage potential during ranked match. If they have a choice of 5 combos to do, only the best bang-for-your-super-meter combo will be used. The rest of the combos practically will never the light of the day.

Why use 30% dmg combo when you can use 38% dmg combo instead? Can't expect variety during online match
