I just don't get it man. The goal is not to level up and enjoy the story?

I like it purely due to nostalgia, I have to admit.

Dont level up, abuse junctioning, play the card game without mixing rules with other areas, turn a blind eye to the annoying characters, and ignore the really dumb plot points.

10/10 game

I think it's pretty solid for most of the way through, but it really falls apart towards the end

Some of the plot stuff is immensely stupid, but it was certainly a good-looking game back then.

It has it's faults, but it's my favorite of the games. I don't get how you think not leveling up is somehow a downside, tho, like, that's just one less grind to worry about.

It's certainly possible, but tedious. I generally just allow the rules I enjoy like Elemental to be spread so I don't have to reset as often

If you weren't an emo respected loner then you wouldn't like the game way back then.

FF8 is the artist's Final Fantasy game. It's bunch of crazy plot stuff thrown at the wall to see what vibes the best, just like every other Final Fantasy game, but the way everything settles into place allows multiple art school student bullshit explanations for the gaping plot holes.

It's one of my favorites.

Pretty much how I felt. Kudos for trying something new and different with the Junction system but it was just wack.

FF8 has the honor of being the only mainline FF game I havent completed due to how shit it is. One of these days Ill suffer through it to completion.

The collecting a new and stronger card aspect was prolly the most appealing part of the card game because then you can transform them to items and magic rather than drawing magic from enemies. Sucks when new rules are entered and you have to manipulate the game to abandon dumb rules such as Random.

The Card game was better than the actual game imo

Handling your GFs and magic is way less grindy than just fighting over and over for xp gains, tho. As you said, w/ magic, you can literally create it out of items and stuff - and it's not like you NEED 100 Ultimas or whatever to beat the game

You'll level your GFs pretty easily for most things just by managing them well and killing the bosses, since they're one of the largest sources for AP.

It's my favourite FF game, but I do admit that I get why people may not like it.

I disagree on the fact that you actually have to apply at least some strategy playing Triple Triad rather than just mash X to get through the random battle.

you're not forced to do this, though - and you can still get item drops from enemies that you can turn into magic the same way. the card game is just an alternate method, which i think is super cool.

games that allow you an option of mindlessly grinding mobs or doing literally anything else, and still getting viable rewards are cool.
