My wife is a 3rd grade teacher and she teaches this book and was telling me about it and apparently there's a sled dog race but then the main dog's heart EXPLODES inches before the finish line and then some dude shows up and holds the competitors at gun point so the dead dog owner can drag the corpse of his best friend across the finish line and "win"

and tbh it sounds pretty metal for 3rd grade

I think I watched it in school?? That sounded vaguely familiar so I looked it up and there's a movie adaptation of it, and just reading the full summary of the movie I'm pretty sure I saw that, not the book
