Probably as 4 was the exact reason I never played 5.

I still have it with the strategy guide.
I have Suikoden 1-5 and Tactics but have never had the DS one

Suikoden V is my favorite of all of the Suikodens and I hate the treatment it gets. Its so underrated. It has my favorite characters and story and I love Roy.

It has my favorite main character and watching him go from 'princess archetype' to commander is great. Georg, I love Georg! The music too! Omg I love this game. I still have it and the guide too.

I 100% Suikoden V and used to play it many times. The only issue was the slow start but playing it the first time was really nice because you weren't sure what to expect. Hell even the opening at the start screen made it hard to get what was going on because there were a few red herrings(like with the Queen)

I also have Tierkries and I know people don't like it but I enjoy it as a Suikoden lite even with its terrible voice acting.

I never ran into a jrpg fan that hated suikoden 5 to be honest. It just was overlooked and unfortunately not all good rpgs actually sold good.

Five was great.

It was pretty enjoyable.

i've only ever played the first 2. some day i will play more of the series.

Hundred Heros or whatever comes out soon some people already got it

The problem with 5 was load times and an entirely too long battle transition animation (which itself is just masking a load time).

If Konami ever does a Suikoden V remake they need to fix the load times and if they do they'll have an exceptional game on their hands.

All are good. Don't listen to the people who say 3 and 4 are bad. The different perspectives in 3 are bit redundant. It could have been told differently. Still a good game. 4 is really for people who like sailing games. Story was good though. 4 a character who reminded me of Kate Mulgrew' s Janeway.. It also has Mitsuba. She's very petite but uses a giant greatsword and swings it like it takes no effort at all. I liked to use her in my party because it's a bit silly

It is well regarded among those who play it.

Konami's botched handling of the series is the only reason it had so small an uptake.

4's story is terrible. It was all over the place, badly paced, badly written and essentially incomplete.

Story time!

For years, I wasn't able to finish Suikoden V. I had a knockoff memory card that, whenever I tried to save, it would freeze up the game trying to load the save menu. So whenever I wanted to play it, I had to leave my PS2 running for days or even weeks straight. And every time, every time, we'd get a power outage and I'd lose all my progress. I must've suffered that exact outcome half a dozen different times over the years. One time, it happened literally during the cutscene before the final boss! I think I managed to actually finish it once before getting a proper memory card and being able to actually save.

Despite all that, it's still one of my absolute favorite games of all time. Heck, I might have to replay it soon since I'm thinking about it now~

People wouldn't complain so much about 4 if it didn't have the absolutely insane random encounter rate it has (literally best way to play the game is with a game shark to enable no encounters, use a joker code so you can toggle encounters on and off with a button) and the party restriction of 4 characters instead of 6.

The story of 4 is fine. Far from the best but fine.
