If the only discussion that sustains any momentum on the forum are inane memes or shitposting in an effort to troll each other while attempts at serious threads just get buried by these sorts of posts have the wheels fallen off and it's time to just end the community because it's hopeless?

Yes. Which is why Im trying to kill off that one terrible subreddit I unfortunately helped spawn.

Oddly enough its way more difficult to shut down a community full of hateful bigotry than one would think.

It depends on certain factors, what was the original purpose of the forum? Is it just a general forum where almost anything goes?

If it's the latter when why should it close down just because it turned into memes and shit posts? If it's the former then maybe, even then it depends. If it's like a Pokemon forum (as an example) and the forum is filled with Pokemon related memes and shit posts then fair game.

Also it also depends on who created the forum and the rules in place, if they don't want memes and shit posts then it's easy to create rules in place to prevent that tbh

Depends. If it's the pointless but harmless kind, let it be. Basically falls under "let people enjoy things". Whereas if it's degraded into a hate forum or something, nuke it.

Memes and shitposts are the ultimate form of forums. It's what they've always aspired to be and finally they're here. Thousands of years of forums has finally evolved into this and you just want to shut that off? You might as well be asking to end humanity itself
