They have a couple of locations and their main gimmick is you pay one fee and get as much sushi as you want.

The sushi itself is just...okay. Like very average or even kind of below-average (if you're being particularly snobby). But it's unlimited. Very much quantity over quality but I like going there for that reason (not exquisite sushi but you get so much it still leaves me feeling good).

Am I cheating myself? Costs about $20 to $30, depending on when you go.

You're not cheating yourself if you think it's worth it

You always have the option to go to another sushi joint and pay more for less if that's what you want to do

Those all you can eat sushi places are great. Yeah they aren't the best quality but it allows you to try different sushi and whatever other fried noodle/rice dishes they also offer. Like any other buffet style restaurant, how much you eat determines how good of a value it is. These places make their money from the people who only eat 1-2 plates of food.

There's too many to eat from in LA and the best ones always have long ass lines that don't take reservations. All you can eat Sushi take full advantage of the fact that the rice is going to make up the majority was what's going to be in your stomach, so come with an empty stomach and try not to drink too much.

No, I'm just reflecting on a conversation I had with a...strained friend in the past. I've been going to these places for years.

It's pretty much expected that an All you can eat restaurant would have average menu.

What's about the cheating thing? What are you even cheating at?

Money could be better spent for a one-and-done but high quality sushi restaurant. Something worth savoring.

I got one of those around me. They charge 25 for lunch and 30 something for dinner. And it's actually really good sushi. And they offer other items like fried calamari, crab wontons, salads, and your typical entrees like sesame chicken. It's a really great deal. I go about every other week.

But is it better tho?
There is this thing called value where it compares the quality and price.
To some people, that AYCE sushi restaurant is more valuable than high class sushi.
And you can do both anyways, high class for special occasion and cheap one in regular days.
