It had some pretty good practical effects and special effects for something from the 1950s, surprisingly so.

I remember watching some of this movie on TV and always wanting to see the whole thing after reading the book. The nautilus submarine in the movie is actually a pretty cool design.

Also the movie itself is actually alright.
