I just watched the first 40 minutes of the video. How are these investigators so calm when he's detailing every single thing he does. I would be shitting bricks out

So calm yet so terrifying. No cuffs on him or nothing, it's like they don't view him as a damn threat. Kinda what his friend mom said how he was a bit of an oddball but never thought he was a danger...

So, for interrogations, there are a few reasons to thst detectives choose to keep people uncuffed unless they are expected to be a legitimate threat..
1: Suspects are more likely to talk when not cuffed and shackled.
2: It looks better when the interview is shown during trial. Jury is less likely to be sympathetic to the suspect if they aren't all chained up. Also removes a tool from the defenses arsenal that the suspect felt forced into confessing.

Besides, he really wasn't a threat to police at any point. Unarmed, did nothing to hide his guilt, was open about everything. He clearly had no intention of trying to escape. Was a sensible call to leave him uncuffed and more comfortable to share all the details and his reasoning.

Same. Hell, sometimes you just see something totally unexpected and all you can do is laugh like that. Happened to me a couple weeks back. Guy pistol whipped his girlfriend, so I took a look expecting it to be, you know, not too bad.

Yeah, no. He had hit her hard enough you could see skull. It was just so unexpected I laughed and went "What the fuck".

Watched it last night. Was pretty good and kept going more into detail as the video progressed.

Ill spoil what happened to maybe encourage people who were on the fence about watching because of the length.

19 year old crashes his car into a lake in the cold month of February. Gets into the water to try and hide evidence. Almost freezes to death. Makes up story to police that he was just going for a drive and made a mistake with parking the vehicle on a ramp. Police discover blood on vehicle but let the teen go. Mom next day discovers a trash bag in the sons closet and is horrified to find a head and hands in there. Son is approached by cops and son casually admits to everything and surrenders peacefully.

Police interrogate the teen and he goes into detail with his motive, background, and the gory details of the murder. Tells the police he dressed up as Michael Myers and used a machete. Friends, teachers, and parents are all questioned about the teens past and a bunch of red flags are present like how he once killed and decapitated a cat, has a morbid sense of humor, was obsessed with human autonomy and decapitations. Parents were aware but didnt get the teen help and just assumed that was normal behavior and only had him on an anti anxiety med. Friends and teachers all thought he would shoot up a school some day with the things hed tell them and his fascination with reading books on school shootings.

Lots more details emerged in the video and the teen thought because of his age that no matter what he would get out of prison after 15-20 years. Dude got life without parole instead and screwed any defense he had for admitting insanity by the way he detailed the murder.

Its amazing to me how clueless parents can be with their kids. They thought it was perfectly normal to let a kid that was diagnosed on the spectrum with major depression, anxiety, some and form of schizo, have a fascination with horror movies, morbid humor, serial killers, and school shootings. Like they started to question him when they discovered a set of knives, duck tape, zip ties, and other weapons for torture previously so he threw them away and they all moved on from it a year prior. He didnt have a bad childhood at all and was just allowed to be molded by his fascination with violence with all his conditions.

Yeah he felt no remorse for the homeless guy. And actually drove around for half a year looking for victims.

If it wasn't for the woman reporting the homeless guy missing or the mother going through his room. This guy could have claimed a lot more lives before he gets caught.

It's usually flat-out denial. Even with said red flags of others, the parents won't immediately throw their own child under the bus like that.
"My son/daughter would never do anything bad!"

Until it does happen, of course.

And it is denial "until the bad thing happens" because admitting that maybe your kid really is fucked up and could grow into a serial killer would feel like an admission that the parent failed their child in some way, even if they did everything reasonably correct for raising him or her, as such parents would assume it'd invite a lot of shame and scrutiny that "they're just as bad" and some such.

I know there's a book I spotted on the subject for parents to pay better attention to the signs that their child might be or growing into sociopathy, and ways to steer them away from it.

Tells the police he dressed up as Michael Myers and used a machete
Small correction. He wore a jumpsuit he'd used for a Michael Myers costume the previous Halloween, he didn't wear the mask. I think because it would be easier to clean than normal clothes, but I might be mixing up what he said with what I assumed.

And it wasn't a machete, it was a large kitchen knife. Which I was surprised a kitchen knife, even a big one, could mutilate a body that extensively.

As for the parents.

In retrospect all of these things are obvious red flags, but there are a ton of edgy teens who make morbid, fucked up jokes. How many people on this very board used to look up shock videos and the like? They took him to see counselors and got him on medication. The mom even set an alarm for herself every night to make sure she reminded him to take it. And I don't think they were privy to the full extent of things; I don't remember any mention of them knowing about the cat.

His fascination with serial killers isn't a red flag in and of itself. This very video has over five million views and the channel behind it as nearly as many subscribers. And of course we're sat here talking about it. Even my mom generally won't watch a TV show unless someone gets murdered in it. A shitload of people that aren't serial killers are fascinated with true crime and serial killers.

Even something more extreme like the killer's toolkit they found, how would you even deal with that situation? More counseling that isn't going to do anything because the dude is fundamentally broken? Call the police like they threatened to do? They aren't going to do anything just because someone's carrying around a box of murder tools.

And then there is just the simple denial. Like Bomberman said, parents don't want to believe their kid could do something this heinous. The dad in the video even mentions that, saying there are red flags he didn't ignore exactly but chose to believe his son about because he wanted to believe. And when it finally did come down to absolute proof, they immediately called the police and turned him in. Some parents wouldn't.

I imagine the parents could have done more at some point in the kid's life, but I don't see it as a failure of their parenting. It doesn't seem like they were abusive or anything, the kid is just fundamentally fucked up on a chemical level. They were humans doing their best with an inhuman situation.

It's stunning to see how he completely botched his attempt at hiding the body in the absolute worst way possible, yet that was not how he got caught.

Dude literally drove his blood-stained car into the water and had to call the cops to help him just after he had dumped a dismembered corpse right there.

i just watched a video about this. the notebook, the lists of serial killers, the ravings about being "neutral evil," the tools he had gathered, it was all there staring them in the face for a year

it makes me wonder, though... i met someone here actually who i started talking to off the site, she had a list of her favorite serial killers ready and waiting to tell me about, and some other peculiar things she fixated on and fantasized about. i don't want to go into specifics as i have had three unique stalkers here, but it makes me wonder if she was just being quirky and edgy, or if there was actually something to it. sometimes it really is as simple as the writing in the notebook

Should be if there isn't. At least here it's legal to shoot a fleeing felon or someone fleeing that has felony charges against them.

And this is the kinda person where I fully agree with that. Don't see why they need to be off camera though cops with a gun on their belt is normal. Doubt it would raise any eyebrows.
