Yeah that day 1 edition of MGSV you paid probably $40-$50 more than 5 years ago will be worth thousands the very second you seal that fucker up in a plastic case with a made up rating label >_____>

Yeah, this reminds me of the baseball card craze in the 90s. Maybe there are people willing to pay 4k for an unopened PS4 game in a plastic case today. but in 15 years? I highly doubt it.

I figured there would be a bigger push to deal with this when a whole bunch of YouTubers flat out revealed that a grading company was actively collaborating with auction companies to intentionally inflate to the video game market so they could pull in massive profits. Instead everyone just went oh that sucks and then moved on and they're still doing it.

ikr you'd think the people paying for those grades would carry out a class action lawsuit and destroy that company but NO, they're so deluded by that pyramid scheme payday they don't care to bother.
Egregious capitalism but at the same time just let the market deal with the losers.

I dont think it is illegal for someone to arbitrarily say something is worth thousands of dollars, then convincing suckers to pay it.

It isn't, but it is when the company that determines how well preserved a game is artificially and dramatically increases what they value each game to be worth when they just so happen to also be getting a cut of every sale on an auction site that sells said preserved games.

There's totally a difference.

For sports cards which are made of flimsy cardboard and often contain autographs/worn fabric, it does make sense to seal it in plastic to protect against time.

There's also variances due to how things are made that can actually be proven and measured for a grade towards a "perfect card"

Then the company's that grade cards are trusted 3rd party witness/verification companies in the memorabilia market.

Sealing a video game makes 0 sense bc then you can't even play it. Losing its original function.

Videogames are a mass-produced item. Their inherent value is below $1, and it's only worth what somebody will pay for it. Nobody will actually buy this for 4k, so the seller has lost money. What's your problem with it?

Doesn't really matter if no one's even buying it, other than morons who deserve to lose money.
