Is it stupid and anyone claiming to feel it needs to get over themselves or do you empathize and understand where it comes from?

Is that the same as imposter syndrome?

If so, that's a real thing. Success doesn't 'cure' low self-esteem and poor self image. Those are deep seated psychological issues that can cause people to believe they don't deserve what they have, or will be 'found out' and humiliated.

It's like "post-impostor syndrome". It's when the guy who thinks he doesn't deserve to rub shoulders with his peers actually gets to that level and questions why him and not someone who can be proud of their accomplishments.

As someone whos been at high level positions and seen the absolute fucking meatheads that usually have those jobs, anyone with Imposter Syndrome DEFINITELY deserves to be in their position.

I think it's partly driven by the unfairness of modern society, where merit and drive sometimes don't mean shit. So while you roost at the top and reflect on everyone who didn't get to your level it leaves questions about whether or not getting there was the work of the personal effort or the broken system. Thinking it was the latter can instill a sense of being part of the problem (the boot on the neck of the totally competent but less privileged individuals who aren't realizing their potential due to the circumstances they find themselves in circumstances that work against their ability to put their talents to use because of how society regards their status).

It's stupid and they should donate to charity. Do these people think the homeless are actually billionaires or something?

Most people aren't gonna feel bad for someone more successful than them trying to garner sympathy over something people wish they had. If you're just talking about internal thoughts or something then fine

I've known quite a few people who were driven to be successful only to get there and immediately start having an existential crisis.

Sometimes an idea is more powerful than the reality. And when you can no longer trick yourself into believing that you aren't yet successful, suddenly you have to confront the fact that perhaps it didn't have the meaning you thought it did.
