or should I rock with FES with a control party members mod?

is the remake like pretty faithful or does it like remix and reimagine a lot of stuff

If youve never played Persona 3, id say yes. The biggest complaints people have about the remake are usually that the music has been remixed and the atmosphere feels different, which you wouldnt know as a new player.

The QOL is much better, so id recommend the remake.

FES has the best atmosphere for the game, but the quality of life improvements and gameplay is way better on reload (even if you have full party control in FES). I'd recommend reload since the atmosphere is only a slight step down (unlike portable which butchers the atmosphere).

Like does it change the story or the gameplay or mechanics at all? Or is it more like an updated re-release?

is there merit to playing both versions eventually, or are they pretty much the same game, with reload just being a bit more modernized?

Reload has a baton pass system, as well as non-instakill light and dark spells, and The fatigue mechanic is gone so you can do Tartarus whenever. You can also choose which skills to pass on when you fuse personas, which is a big step up.

The story is basically the same for the most part, with some new events for the SEES guys and Strega.

Reload as of now does NOT have the FES epilogue The Answer, however. As of now FES is worth playing eventually because its the only version that has it.

Yes, especially since there's a strong chance that The Answer will be available via DLC.

Even if Reload never gets The Answer, you can still easily play it on FES since its an entirely separate option from the main game.

There's basically no reason to play FES after playing Reload, even the FES exclusive epilogue is heavily implied to be added later as DLC according to dataminers

Doesnt FES have like story content and stuff interspersed throughout the main game? And extra cutscenes and stuff? Or is it literally just the postgame content stuff

Reload has all of the FES additions that were added to the base game. It just doesnt have The Answer epilogue.
