What's to get? You're just substituting a word for a different word.

People typically use them if they don't feel that either of the binary he/him or she/her fit their gender identity. Things like ze and xir are a little strange just when hearing it, since we're not used to it.

Edit: Oh, like ze. I'm not really a fan, but I have no problem using someone's preferred pronoun. Language also changes so I'm willing to adapt. I honestly have never met anyone that used them, though.

I'm with TC, I understand the they/them, but I don't get the difference between all the more obscure ones.

Neopronoun was meant to take a place of a noun
Cause saying all those nouns over and over can really wear you down.

some of them are because the person prefers to have something that sounds gender neutral other than they/them

and when you open up the possibilities for personal identification, then people will provide more and more options that they feel better represent them.

This is true, and if someone at your workplace or whatever asks you to use that, will it fucking kill any of these people to make that one co-worker a little more comfortable to say a slightly different pronoun for someone?

The amount of outrage and hate and childish refusal to be kind to others over something so trivial as using a different word than he or she to make another person feel more comfortable is baffling... but then so is bigotry.

I think once you get past they, people will be baffled about conjugation.

Zie, zis, zimself? I've seen clownself.

They is very flexible. Usually that's enough.

Pronouns are a way to make referring to someone easier. Most neopronouns do the exact opposite and might as well just be called nouns

Ive struggled with this too. Referring to a single person as a plural makes no sense. But it also doesnt bother me, my wife has a coworker that wants to be referred to as a they and I talked to them without issue. Its a respect issue

I mean, I'm friends with a lot of trans people who get purposefully misgendered because people are bigoted

neopronouns are like making people run before they can walk

The other thing is, the amount of anguish and moral outrage when someone gets even remotely upset at their purposeful mis-gendering, like they are the one being persecuted.

Missing the point that you can always just... you know... simply communicate with that person instead of tuning in to Matt Walsh or any number of right wing fascists who will instruct you to carry out some level of harassment or terror against them...
