Depends on the geographic area. Where I live in the Midwest it is a pretty low cost of living area and housing is still reasonable. I see plenty of houses for sale that are in decent shape and average family houses for around $170K. I'm talking like a standard 3 bedroom 1.5 bathroom house with a decent yard.

You can definitely go cheaper than that and find deals on other houses or you can go into a higher price range and find some pretty good ones in the 220k to 250k range. I'm talking good size family homes with like 4 bedroom 3.5 bath, double or triple garage, over 3,000 square feet.

While not quite that cheap I know someone who just bought a 4 bedroom 2 bathroom home with a double garage, 1,500 square feet, and average yard for $115K in my area and it is actually in the town that runs more expensive than smaller surrounding towns.

Not going to really find much cheaper unless you start looking at houses that need work done to them. This house was in nice condition still. For this day and age that was a steal to him and totally doable on some pretty moderate and average jobs.

Thats still a lot. Go back 60 years people with a minimum wage job could get houses at like 20-24 and it was literally their starter home. Then when around 30 they could get bigger and better homes. And none of that put them into debt forever.
like literally you could save for just a couple years and buy a house. Im not even talking about a huge bank loan
