The ads at the start have always been a thing on prime, it's the midstream ones that are new.

No, they used to just have a preview for other Amazon Prime shows at the start that you could skip

now they do the countdown thing where it shows you a minute of ads for like AT&T or whatever and you cant skip

There used to be promos for other Prime shows, sure, and they were skippable, but never actual ads until recently.

Ive accidentally backed out of episodes and instead of picking up where I left off it starts over and then I have to watch the midstream ads, again, to get back to where I was.

I kinda like how the Streaming Generation has become so "Old Man Yells at Clouds" about the "good ol' days" of commercial-free streaming.

So much so that, apparently, they're moving their headquarters to Florida in order to mooch off of the government I mean take advantage of its lower corporate taxes.

Those are still ads on an already paid service, doesn't matter if they were for products on that service.

Dumb take

i grew up with ads on TV. Doesnt make it any less annoying that a service I pay for, to one of the most profitable businesses on the planet, is now telling me I need to pay even more or theyll make the service worse for me

They arent ads. They are skippable previews. Do you call all movie trailers "ads"? Did you boy cott vhs tapes because you had to FF through "ads"? Of course not. Argue in good faith! Call a spade a spade!

I do, I didn't need to fast forward my vhs tapes because I would splice the previews out.

That's not trolling, it's a simple thing to do. While you could use scotch tape, there was even tape sold specifically for it sold in places like circuit city and tower records.

I let my Prime subscription run out this month. I was planning on not renewing after the last price hike, but the ad thing was the cherry on top.

You still get free shipping if spending over $25, and now there's less temptation to order a $5 item I don't really need. I was doing that almost every day.

Previews are still ads. They only call them previews so they can sleep better at night about claiming ad free when it's not.

That you could skip

why do yall keep ignoring that aspect? The previews automatically had a button that all you had to do was press ok on the remote as soon as you started the show and it would skip the previews

They fact that they're in an "ad free" service is basic false advertising, skippable or not.

Again, a "back in my day" take.

TV used to be free. Still is if you have a tuner.

But then it expanded. And with that expansion brought on added costs that were passed ont o the consumer.

You pay/paid for cable. Maybe not you directly, maybe your parents did, but someone paid/pays for it.

Cable had, and still have, ads you cannot skip.

Most cable companies are some of the most profitable businesses on the planet.

Comcast, Charter, Disney (Hulu), Verizon, Dish, DirectTV, Altice.

This is the definition of First World Problems.

So did I. I will happily pay more for ad free. But if it's not actual ad free it's false advertising.
