FFT, FFTA, and FFTA2 would be so good on modern resolutions and stuff.

I really just want them to modernize it with some of the quality of life features that disgaea has added over the years. Let me move my character as many times as I want within the move radius until I commit to an action. Give me a congress where I can vote on bills that impact my army but require currying favor with the local politicians. Give me a means of increasing the difficulty of stages so I can level grind in places where I choose prior to a tough fight if it's too hard. We don't need anything zany like tower attacks, but even some of the basic combo attack stuff could be expanded on. Even the ability to unlock a higher tier of a class by resetting your level would work perfectly fine in an fft setting if it was just usable on generic soldiers and you're effectively recruiting multiple generations of them.

I yearn for a tactics game with the mechanical complexity of a disgaea but with the character writing and story lines of an fft.

The OG is the only one I ever feel like playing, but if they did a remaster of all three, that'd be tolerable.

A new game coming next month called Unicorn Overlord, supposedly combines all the best elements of all the most famous strategy jrpgs. So it might have some of the stuff you mentioned

They already remaster FFT as WotL.

What we need is a FFTA / FFTA2 collection port.

I'll have to keep an eye on it. Going off the Wikipedia description, it seems like it's actually closer to something like total war or baldur's gate since all the combat is real time but with the ability to pause.

Where did you hear that? Like, I think it looks good but it is pretty clearly just an improvement of/iteration on Ogre Battle and only vaguely resembles something like FFT. In that vein it is far closer to something like Starcraft than it is FFT, what with its lack of turn-based combat (in the overworld... it's a bit complicated), lack in a grid, etc.. It, in fact, contains none of the things he mentioned as its gameplay is almost entirely at odds with Disgaea (sometimes for the obvious better, such as its branching/free-form choice as to how you play the story).

No need to apologize. It's an atlus game and the tactics genre is their bread and butter.

Ye, no need to apologize. I was just baffled because they don't have anything to do with one another beyond medieval fantasy. I can fully believe that someone gave you the wrong idea as there are a lot of people who equate/relate games that have nothing to do with one another sheerly because one is a popular game that already exists and they are just trying to drag up the new game as a hype method. Sort of like how so many games are "like Chrono Trigger" despite having nothing in common outside of one superficial bit. By comparison saying that it's like Ogre Battle or Soul Nomad wouldn't get near that hype because the only people who would have played them would already have been super hyped about the game just because of the recognition to the gameplay alone.

If I'm remembering correctly a lot of the pre-hype around the Unicorn game said pretty much the same, so it's understandable. I saw a bit of the gameplay in a Direct or something, and it quickly fell hard off my radar.

The 1st and 2nd I know have been rereleased recently. 3 is a ps1 game. 4 is on ps2

While I've never played the remake, I'd consider the first game to be on par with FFT's writing, so I'd suggest the remake under the assumption that they didn't fuck everything up.

There's a DS version as well which actually adds a second story mode where you play from the antagonist faction. This isn't in the remake AFAIK. In my opinion you can't really go wrong with any version of the first game.

Just make another game that's more in line with the tones of the first and less kiddy like the two advance games.

Honestly I'd prefer a new game in the series rather than remasters. But remasters and rereleases are much cheaper and easier to do, and probably more likely as a result.

WotL was only released on the PSP. Which...yeah, there is a reason why Sony got out of the mobile market. Rather hard to acquire.
