if it focused on Steve and Laura? no.

if it focused on Eddie? then maybe.

I'd rather they had a more relatable family, like when the show first came out rather than all of the zany stuff it developed into.

Urkel is the only reason anyone remembers that show. It would have been among the many forgotten family sitcoms. An Eddie-centric show would get super old real fast.

Speak for yourself. Family Matters addressed a lot of issues that sitcoms of its day wouldn't touch. Even with its flaws, it was one of the quintessential 90s sitcoms.

And besides, everyone knows that reboots are almost always worse than the original series.

That's a bit too much of a generalization. Also, you realize there's a Duke Nukem in Captain Planet...

Anyway, I do think the idea of people finding it silly may be the one road block (case in point the post above mine, that vid might have hurt the odds), though I still think the reasons I mentioned to do it outweigh it.

a more dramatic reboot, like Bel-Air (I really liked the first season, but haven't seen the second), could work, IMO.

a nerdy black kid in Chicago, whose parents seem to neglect him, that befriends his next door neighbors, could be interesting, if handled correctly.

The funny thing was Steve Urkel was supposed to be in only one episode. He was named after a random dude a writer on the show knew. So I bet the real-life Steve Urkel took a lot of crap for years.

Maybe, it's hard to say. I feel like shows like pre-Urkel Family Matters survived for long times just by being comfort shows that were cheap to make.

Even if it had just as many seasons, though, it would have had zero cultural relevancy and no longevity. I'm sure Urkel got all the major actors more pay than they would have gotten as well with how popular the show was.

It was great to have a nerdy character be the main character as well. Usually, they are strictly punchlines and are mostly background characters. Urkel gave us a great taste of the zany that it otherwise would not have. Do you think Myra would ever have been a character on a non-Urkel FM?

No offense to Eddie, but his show would just have me longing for the off-the-walls Family Matter. There are just too many sitcoms based around Eddie's for me to feel that interested.

Sitcoms got cancelled frequently in the 1980s. Like that Lucille Ball sitcom that didn't even finish it's first season. They still had to pay Gale Gordon per his deal for several episodes that didn't even air.

I like it, but maybe not wait until the end. It could be a thing where Steve has constructed a fantasy for himself where he goes on wacky adventures and does the Urkel dance and stuff to deal with how hard his real life is.
