Originally it started off as rumors of Sea of Thieves + Hi-Fi Rush coming to PS5 and Switch but now multiple reputable sources are backing up claims that Starfield, Indiana Jones and other Bethesda projects are also going multiplatform.

Jez Corden claims that Microsoft views their current strategy as not being profitable/healthy enough and that there are plans to bring games multiplatform. Another reputable source says he's heard claims that a lot more games are coming to other platforms than reported and expected.

While I can understand the line of reasoning, what's motivating them to keep making consoles?

At this point? Probably just not completely screwing over their audience who bought their hardware and subscribed. It'll probably wind down.

Stuff like Starfield, ok, I guess not a system seller so make back what they can on it. But if they don't keep some good games to themselves there's little reason to buy their stuff. There's not even a PC delay like Sony's new strategy. If you have no exclusives there's not much reason to get your console. Gamepass can only go so far.

There hasn't been a reason to buy Xbox stuff since like 2010. Its pure brand loyalty now

I mean, they've been moving away from consoles for years. They know all the money is in game pass going forward.

Xbox never recovered from the 2013 Xbone debacle, what Xbox exclusive has been amazing in 10 years? Rare Replay and thats about it...

I would just keep ignoring it like I already do with my series X and PC to be honest. *shrugs*

Something like hi-fi rush I would rather flat out buy.

*At the same time I realize game pass has a good bit of use for other gamers out there. Just doesn't have any for me personally.*

I would imagine that the model for the rest of this gen would be to effectively try every game as an "exclusive" to gauge potential, but to have teams at the ready to port things over.

Something like Starfield clearly isn't the system seller they hoped, so they move ahead with porting it relatively quickly. But if ES6, for example, does shift consoles then keep that on XBox only until the hype is just about gone, then port it to pick up the last of the consumers who didn't buy the hardware to play it. Basically, the bigger the uptick in hardware sales a game causes, the longer the wait for a port, but eventually for any game they will go after their competing consumer base's money.

Honestly, if we assume that this "first party games are getting ported" malarkey is true, it's kinda a wonder that nobody up until now has looked at the install base for their rival consoles and just thought "well if they're not buying our consoles let's just sell them our games" - especially since software is presumably where the biggest profit lies.

Looks like next gen is going from big 3 to big 2. Unless you count PC then it remains big 3.

I feel like they dont really care about xbox consoles anymore and are all in on game pass. If Sony would allow game pass, i think microsoft would happily leave the console business behind

Sony and nintendo doin just fine
