Watching Jack Reacher and if made me curious.

Say a cop knows a PI or some other civilian working a case, and they arrest a subject able to afford good lawyers to challenge things. Cop brings in the civilian to the interrogation, but stays to ensure any normal rules or regulations are followed.

Does bringing in the civilian create an avenue for his lawyers to appeal and get a conviction overturned?

For context in the show this happened in Philadelphia, but if you have information for anywhere else I'd love to know.

If the person has a good lawyer, that good lawyer is gonna tell them not to say anything to the civilian interrogator anyway.

Well yes but let's assume they're stupid >.>

For the sake of discussion let's assume they don't ask for a lawyer

Can't we give ourselves one more chance?
Trying my best. If I fail, let me know.

Oh definitely. Always ask for a lawyer. If that isn't the end of the discussion you are almost guaranteed to go free, or at minimum put your case under serious scrutiny.
