A friend of mine sent me this link and told me it's a pretty good deal, but I'm basically a caveman when it comes to computers, and have no idea if that's the case. Should mention that my current console is a PS4, so basically anything is an upgrade.

My PS4 is slow as fuck, and with the price of Plus going up, and Microsoft buying a bunch of developers I like, I figured it was time to look into getting a PC as opposed to getting a new console. Is this worth it?

seems like a good deal to me but mainly cuz i paid like 2.3k for something similar in 2018

i can still play modern games (true next gen games) at around current console level so much better than ps4

Looks ok, the 1tb ssd kinda sucks and im guessing they got a shitty mobo and or power supply in it. Its a good starter PC though.

CPU will be solid for a long time. RAM might need an upgrade to 32GB at some point (as in a few years down the line) but that's pretty cheap and easy. GPU isn't incredible but it's good, you may want to upgrade that in a couple of generations. Only 1TB storage is... okay but far from great. This is also a fairly easy and cheap thing to upgrade though, including that you can just permanently plug in a USB SSD or HDD if you want.

Thanks for the responses, guys. While I understand it's not perfect, I'm not the sort of person who absolutely needs the best/most expensive set-up. I've made due with my PS4 for quite some time. If I can get the same kinda mileage out of this I'll be content.

Don't buy a GPU with less than 16GB of VRAM if you want to play current gen games that are made for consoles first. PS5 has 16GB of VRAM and games like Jedi Survivor and Last Of Us Remake are coming to the PC market expecting that, too.

According to minimum required specs, those games would run on a GTX 1070 with 8GB VRAM.

Run and run well are two different things. Hardware unboxed put out a video not that long ago where they compared a bunch of games running on 16GB vs 8GB and found plenty of instances where the 8GB cards were underperforming relative to what they should be able to do based on the power of the card. Even when performance wasn't significantly impacted, they saw instances of games not being able to load in higher quality textures at close range

As far as I've seen it's just not a good year to buy GPUs, in part because of this PS5 huge amount of vram shock. So TC might wanna wait for next year if the GTX 5000 series or whatever comes out then

A prebuilt with a 5000 series will probably run 1500-2500.

This is a good deal and TC has already said he doesnt mind it being not the top percentage of performance. Its a good starter PC for the price and it will be leagues above a PS4 and a PS5. TC is fine with that build.

Yeah it'll probably run anything right now *fine*. I just wonder if PS5 ports are going to get better or worse in the future about managing VRAM as the general PC market starts adopting 16 GB vram cards.

If you wanted a 4K monitor for productivity use or watching videos etc, that PC will have no problem doing that (not even if you're running multiple monitors).

The issue with higher resolution monitors is that the GPU won't be able to handle rendering at them in particularly intensive games, unless you turn down other graphics settings to compensate. A 1080p image on a 1440p panel won't look as sharp due to not being able to scale exactly. Using a 4K screen and setting your games at 1080p should be fine though. (Doing that with a 1440p screen will still work, the image just might lose a bit of quality.)

If its a console port it'll probably follow the trend of running like shit.

Also, he's coming from console he probably wont even notice a performance issue. Every time there's a Console vs PC topic on here the console people say they dont care about higher FPS. He'll be able to run most games on high at about 50-60 FPS and he'll be fine.

My pc is around this prebuilt in OP in performance (I have 2080ti and 9900k @ 5 ghz). At least in most cases.. that prebuilt would be better for emulation i reckon since it has better single thread performance. The 2080ti has +3gb extra vram tho so might be a lil better at higher res. Ik rtx4000 series has a few extra features over rtx2000 series like frame gen that might help for longevity.

Ive got my pc hooked to a 55 inch 4k TV (since 2019). Dlss has been a lifesaver to keep some newer games maintaining around 60 fps and looking close to native 4k (need about 0.5 to 0.6 sharpening set in Nvidia control panel). That said haven't played any dlss supported game that is more demanding than hogwarts legacy and baldur gate 3. I tend to avoid AAA titles in general and didnt know they need 16 gb vram now.

I also know from performance vids that I'd be getting around 60 fps @ 4k dlss on ratchet rift apart with rtx off + lower a few other settings.

I do consider my pc to be on its last legs since it can't play current titles at Native 4k 60 fps and most games still don't support dlss. 1440p on a 55 inch TV looks somewhat blurry in modern games at 4-5 ft distance. Id have sit about 10 ft or so for them to look OK but I hate playing games that far away. I've been keeping upgraditis at bay with older games for now.

But umm 1440p on a monitor 32 inch or smaller should be fine imo. But I understand why some would recommend 1080p in the long run.

Also should mention that I'm getting similar performance between 4k dlss quality and 1440p native. So 2080ti is basically a 1440p 60 fps card for most games released within the past year or so. 4060 should be at a similar state.

I just remembered that for starfield this level of gaming pc gets sub 60 fps at 1440p idr if lowering res helps tho. Holy shit. Yeah I think 1080p monitor is a wise choice now that I think about it

1080p monitor is a stupid choice. literally zero reason to bother when you can just reduce the resolution in game if you need to. why limit yourself when there are so many games that are easy to run at 1440 or 4k?

What the hell happened. Everyone in 2020 was raving about how great value those 3000 cards were and they're already dated in a few years? Felt like the 1000 series cards lasted great for ages.

Uh the PS5's GPU equivalent is a 2070 which only has 8GB of VRAM.

Its not a bad starter PC, but the 8 GB VRAM is basically a bottleneck now with some games.

Id check into NZXTs BLD service and eCollegePC if thats still around.

If youre comfortable building your own, thats the way to go.
