So thankful we are getting the first release of this series since Dragon Quest Monsters 2: Joker in the west. Are you excited? Have you played the demo? Don't give a shit?

I love that the protagonist is Psaro from Dragon Quest 4. The music has been fantastic so far.

Just because it didn't share the name doesn't mean that Treasures wasn't essentially just Monsters.

And I'm lukewarm so far. I suppose I should give the demo a go but I've moved away from monster collection games for the most part + Dark Prince doesn't feel quite as good as Monsters 3 from what I've seen.

Thats true. Treasures was great. Sadly I never got to play Jokers 3

Haven't played the demo - but I'm interested. I'm just worried about performance on the Switch. The hardware is showing its age, for this and Dragon Quest Treasures. Makes me wonder if I should wait for another platform to get it. Not sure yet.

I hate the majority of monster designs in dragon quest so even if I love monster collection games like SMT or Digimon Cybersleuth, it just doesn't appeal at all. The art style is a major turn off for me

I am legitimately considering getting a Switch specifically for the game, though.

DWM is very much in the discussion of being my favorite game of all time.

I haven't, but I'm buying the game anyway.

DQM is an underrated series, and I've thought so since the original GB one.

Not gonna lie the framerate isn't consistent in the demo. It's not a dealbreaker for me but it is an issue. The game looks good by switch standards.

Jokers 3 is pretty insane + the English patch is actually pretty easy to get to work on the Japanese cart. Definitely look into it if you are into the series as it's pretty staggering that they managed to pull off what they did on the 3DS.

You got me tempted. Can it work one a typical New 3DS XL without having to change the os?

Unfortunately I don't think so. It has been ages since I looked at it, but at least when I went through the steps it hard required that you have a custom OS in order to merge the cart with the patch. While you could run it on the original OS potentially, it would involve you throwing a patched ROM onto a cart and playing that, which is obviously a bit different than what I'm talking about.

I don't know anything about playing ROMs on actual devices, but the ROM with the English patch embedded works fine for me on pc

I mean, obviously running an emulator works. As with before that's also not really what I'm talking about. >.>

Part of the point was that you could actually run it on actual hardware, which is pretty spiffy. As for running a ROM on the hardware it largely comes in two forms, but the one I mentioned was where you burn the ROM onto a 3DS cart and just plop it in. While there can potentially be some headaches most of them really aren't that relevant once you've gotten to the stage of actually having a working cart.

I mentioned that its framerate isn't great earlier. This is in docked mode. It is much more stable in handheld.

I was really into Dragon Warrior Monsters on Gameboy Color but the demo for this just didn't click for me.

Yeah I played the demo when it first dropped. Looking forward to the full game. Love dragon quest and love monster recruitment.
