SNES had Mode 7

It's weird how little they actually used it. Super Castlevania IV and Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts had rotating rooms. Turtles in Time had the player throwing foot soldiers at the screen to win the Technodrome boss fight. There weren't too many games that actually made use of it. If there had been more games like F-Zero or boss fights like the Godzilla-fied Bowser from Yoshi's Island, it could have been a major advantage over Sega.

Instead, it was mostly just the SNES title screen popping out at the player and maybe a boss appearing in the background before moving to the foreground whereas the Sega version would have a stationary title screen and a boss fight that appears from the right side of the screen rather than the background. Hardly an advantage to speak of.

SNES had Super Scope 6

I feel like if you're counting ROB against the NES even though it was only usable in one game then the Super Scope 6 should count too.

What about the NES Zapper? That was kinda gimmicky and was bundled with some versions of the console as a selling point

Rob has literally no function outside of the games that specifically used it only one of which was ever released in America. It was more gimmicky than plastic instruments

NES: Rob
N64: That controller and outdated cartridges
GameCube: The Cube design
Wii: That controller
Wii U: That tablet
Switch: That tablet

I dont really think that any of those are gimmicks. A console gimmick is something unique or uncommon that largely is built into how games are played.

ROB was an accessory, like the Zapper, U-Force and Power Glove. If you count that, then the SNES mouse, Super Scope, or Multi-Tap were gimmicks.

N64 controller is just that a controller. And cartridges were the industry standard until right around then. But the cartridge didnt change the way you played games. It just limited file sizes of what developers could produce.

GameCubes design is as much a gimmick as the SNES having an eject button. If the console being in the shape of a cube is a gimmick, then PlayStation being in the shape of a rectangle is a gimmick.

Wiis gimmick was motion controls. Wii Us was the game pad. Switch was its hybrid function as console and handheld. Nintendo DS was two screens. 3DS was 3D. They all incorporated unique features that changed the way you played games.

The PS5 and Saturn came out years before the N64 and they both used discs, so cartridges weren't the standard of shit by then

Meant to show retailers that the NES was more than a video game console, since stores were super reluctant to stock consoles after losing money on the US video game market crash. Nintendo made an entire 2 games for ROB. The SNES had more games that used the Super Scope and the mouse.

I'm confused what you mean by gimmick when you say "that tablet" for Switch. The Switch being a hybrid was not a gimmick.

It definitely is a gimmick, at least for its time. Whether it might become standard going forward, is another question... Certianly, the explosion of handheld PCs suggests Nintendo were on to something here.

I'd be more curious as to the physical size of a system in 1995 that could match the PS5's power tbh

Even a server room full of cutting edge PCs in 1995 wouldn't be able to match the power of a PS5.

This movie which also happens to be 1995 took 800,000 machine hours to render:

The PS5 got 10.28 Tflops.
That is 10280 Gflops.
The fastest supercomputer in 1995 was the Fujitsu Numerical Wind Tunnel at 170.40 Gflops.
It seems to have cost $1.32 billion.
You need 60.33 of them to get 10.28 Tflops, which would cost $79.63 billion.
