The problem with your "logic" is that you're assigning a target audience to a movie that didn't have one for the sake of making an "argument".

But when a movie or any other form of media is geared towards a specific demographic, then that demographic's opinion of it does matter a lot more than others who may be reviewing it from a position of bad faith.

If, for example, you make a coming-of-age movie about a gay teenager intended to help other gay teens understand themselves and others better, the opinions of that demographic and how they receive it are what matters, not the bigoted boomer chuds who are going to scream "woke" at it.

White, straight people, especially men, have movies made with them as the target audience all the fucking time. They just don't need to call themselves out because the bulk of movies and TV are pretty clearly designed with them as the core demographic, because you can look at the cast and see who the movie's being made for.
