Would CPR work on a gunshot victim? I saw it in a TV show recently and it didn't make sense to me.

Its to be performed any time someone isnt breathing. It doesnt mean their lungs have been damaged - apnea can be caused by any number of things.

Just make sure that once you start, you dont stop until paramedics arrive. You have a duty of care at that point.

Well if you do CPR on someone with trauma and you see blood squirting out somewhere as you do it, you should probably plug it up or put a tourniquet on if appropriate before you continue >_>

This is mostly correct but apnea isn't the criteria, it's cardiac arrest. Never do CPR on someone with a pulse.

Yes. Im facepalming. Thats like the most basic of the basic.

I've been on car accidents and we've just immediately called it on people for extreme trauma. Like a chick who wasn't wearing a seatbelt and had her head dragged through the sunroof after her car flipped and slid down the road, or a dude that had his necks gashed open when he flew out of his car after crashing into a tree. You really can't work those people.

I've only had 1 gunshot to the head, but they were still conscious somehow lol (otherwise all my gunshots were torso or elsewhere). But my coworkers that did have headshots either did transport or sometimes just called it there depending on the situation. Seemed like it was 60/40 from their experiences.

But seriously wear your seatbelts >_>

I once had an EMT tell me someone was on cardiac arrest because the fingertip oximeter wasn't getting a reading, and she started CPR (this was over the phone) T_T
Bruh. I believe it >_>

I've seen people in nursing homes do the dumbest shit. They've started CPR with obvious rigor mortis, did CPR with no spineboard on the bed (so basically they're doing nothing cuz there's no resistance from the ground), they have the AED on the wrong place, you name it. The nurse didn't even know what asystole was when I said it outloud after reading it.

Never put your folks in nursing homes unless you WANT them to die >_> It's like 30 people to 1 nurse, and all the staff is overworked and underpaid, and sometimes just straight up incompetent. The only good nursing homes are usually the ones where you gotta pay like $100k a year or something, which no one can afford.

Can I just say I find it strange that Neon is posting fake/wrong stats about CPR, but people are accusing Tote of being a fake doctor?

Could be worse, a hospital convinced someone I knows FIL to sign a DNR order while they were coming out of a general anaesthetic

That sounds like a breach of ethics lawsuit to me.

Sometimes you have to. Dementia patients run caregivers to the breaking point.

Not that the places are great. My dad was beat up by another patient in the middle of the night.

Oh and when my dad had Covid the place called an ambulance but didnt also go into his file to get his dnr & dni. The emt called me before they drove off to the hospital and I said make sure they give you them.

You guys are taking that number too literally >_> I was just spitballing a number out there to convey how low of a chance CPR has of getting pulses back, but I didnt expect CEmen from their armchairs being like "Well ACKCHYUALLY".

It's just a number dawg. Like 1mg of epi or 10mg of epi is close enough. One of them has a 0 at the end and 0 is already nothing so it's basically the same amirite? >_>
