Why do people like TC and Neons gimmick? Are they the same ones who wish we had Vegy back?
I've always thought of making a poll asking how many people were made more xenophobic towards Japan by Marth and Neon the same way rabid Undertale, Steven Universe, and Rick & Morty fanboys have made people hate the work themselves but I've haven't felt like I've found the right time.

It might sound like a fun place to visit but theyre mostly nice to tourists. Its a whole other thing to actually move there. Its a very culturally conservative country, the wacky and fun stuff you see in media is just a small part of that. Foreigners will always be treated differently, you will be criticized harshly and youd be moving to a country thats on a demographic collapse. This goes for many places in Asia and Europe.

Neon's got a "post Usenet, pre Myspace" sense of internet humor that makes me nostalgic.

The easiest is to marry a Japanese person obviously. I married a Chinese person though. I got permanent residency by having a PhD, certification of Japanese language ability, decent job, etc. It uses a point system. It's actually quite a bit easier than getting a US green card.

Also the people who go on about work culture, xenophobia, or whatever other meme have obviously never lived here. Yep you can find bad jobs and there are racists, but at the end of the day Americans work more hours on average by OECD data and you are way more likely to be the victim of a hate crime in America (or even just killed by a cop). Japan isn't whatever stereotype you have about it and it isn't perfect. But having lived in America, Japan, and China, it's easily the best out of all 3, and my Chinese wife and her family feels the same way.

Lot of people worry about nonsense shit that doesn't matter instead of healthcare, quality of life, environment, safety, etc. I don't give a fuck about getting microaggressioned as a foreigner because it beats being randomly attacked because of your race or just straight up murdered by a cop or a random shooter or whatever else. I swear a lot of Americans are stuck in some kind of reality warp were they ignore the insanity going on around them.

In Tokyo, I felt super safe and 90% of random people on the street I talked to were helpful, unlike America. The only place there I felt on edge was Shinjuku, but otherwise it was way safer than any place I've been to in America. People are armchairing over so much dumb shit they supposedly read about from random posts or whatever, don't know what it's like there. It's worse than watching a bunch of weeb anime and thinking that's what Japan is really like lol.

Congrats on achieving your dreams btw. That's awesome!

Realistically, you need to either have family out here, or have a bachelors degree to even legally think about living here. Bachelors degree will get you stuff like English teacher. There are some IT jobs too. Unless you REALLY love English though, you wont make a career out of it. The Japanese education system basically sabotages language education just by following tradition. Japan is not a flexible country or culture, and this reflects in education.

And if you are even CONSIDERING coming here to find a relationship, Im just gonna laugh. Western and Japanese ideals on relationships dont mesh well, and if you think youll make it because you are a foreigner, well. Youre in for a surprise. Be prepared to be a pet foreigner. If you think anime stereotypes or yamato nadeshiko is real, forget it. Women are sick of that crap and hate foreigners with that mindset.

TLDR: you cant set foot in here to work unless you have a BS degree. Unless you actually have passion in those fields needed in Japan (English education, IT), you wont last.

I'm talking to a girl over there. Her spoken english was pretty good, but her written english is garbage and almost unreadable at times >___> I guess not everyone retains English well lol.

Is English mandatory in high school there? I remember a high school chick sat next to me on the bus over there and she was studying a book on English idioms for school. It was funny to see

English is strict here but it isnt taken seriously. English is studied for tests. Kids really dont retain much of it unless they seek outside sources. You know, cause languages reburie output, and nobody speaks English here.

Speak and write the language, have a career thats beneficial to their society thats decent pay to start, and then it wouldnt hurt to teach English while looking for jobs related to your career once you get there.

Expecting migrant workers to have a degree isnt unusual. Vietnam is the same.

You also cant work a job here that could be filled by a Vietnamese person.

I was interviewing this dude last month. He tells us he's really skilled at English. I ask him some basic questions in English. He can't respond at all.

This isn't even the first time that happened. I think they just assume I don't speak English since the interview is in Japanese, but I am waiting for someone to say they are good at English and actually be able to answer a basic question.
