It tends to take a few tries to get what I want. With super well-known characters, like Mario, I dont need to add anything else. With characters that are well-known, but the name by itself isnt enough, I add the game that they are from.

And if they character is obscure, I try to add a description as well, before detailing the scene.

My prompt for that one was "one faceless neon white silhouette playing tennis with one faceless neon white silhouette in the background, their rackets are futuristic neon white, in a giant all black glass room with neon lights as the net, the court's edges have neon white lights, a giant neon white scoreboard says "4-2", dark room, ominous"

At first I tried saying two players instead of one, but it would be two guys facing each other on the same side of the court and nobody on the opposing side. Little corrections like that. I wanted to get like a Black Mirror+Tron vibe out of it, like a borderline sci-fi horror out of it.

In my vision, there's only neon white lights on the perimeter of the ceiling and court only, and the court would be a LOT bigger, but overall I'm satisfied with how it came out. Took a bunch of tries and that one was my favorite.

DALL-E knows who Link is anyway. I used to input "Link from The Legend of Zelda" but just putting in "Link" works too

So I just did this from memory without looking anything up, and I guess my memory isn't as bad as I thought, because when I went to get pics from the game, it turns out there actually is a blue snake.

What did you use to get a Battletoad to look like that? I had all sorts of issues when I tried to do it. This was my best result when I tried to get a Battletoad on a jet bike (post 153 from this topic), and I wasnt really happy with what I was able to create.

I was curious if DALL-E actually knew what a Battletoad was, so I tried this prompt:

I didn't think the AI would understand "Battletoad," so this is how I described him: "a muscular anthropomorphic toad with green skin, a yellow chest, and a spike bracelet." I also used frog instead of toad for some of them.

Yeah, I definitely used anthropomorphic toad in mine. I probably put too much detail into the background, which took away from the rest of it. Im gonna give this another crack.

The hilarious thing about AI prompts is you often end up writing porn:

"A muscular man with long hair wearing a leather tunic with no pants. He is carrying a whip and looks ready for action"

Sure, that's just Simon Belmont, but the AI doesn't know who "Simon Belmont" is so you gotta get porny

That Simon is also a lot better than a lot of the ones that I have created. Although you use leather tunic whereas I used leather armor and kilt. And that seems to make a world of difference, as far as the outfit goes.

It did that kind of stuff to me too. I actually started out using frog because I always thought of the green one as the frog and the tan one as the toad, even though they're both toads.

wtf how'd you get it to look exactly like the actual tank?

Some trial and error, and some luck. That was the first pic I made (I initially wasnt gonna do the entire cutscene - just that pic). I was initially using something like

A brown haired man wearing a white spacesuit and holding a white and pink space helmet. Behind him is a white blue and pink tank. The setting is a brown rocky subterranean cave. The image is realistic.

That was actually giving me images of a van on tank tracks with no gun turret. After some tweaking, it worked best instead with a white blue and pink gun turret on four large wheels. I got lucky that two of them looked very similar for the final two pics, as it was giving me plenty of weird pics.

The hardest pic to make was the guy chasing the frog towards the radioactive box. I had to remove the garage from the background because it just kept putting the box in the garage. And it really wanted to make the chasing the frog away from the box, despite my prompt saying they were both going towards it.

Also, on one of the pics of the guy sitting and looking at the tank, DALLE randomly decided to put a buncha beer bottles on the ground. I really shoulda saved that pic

It's weird how the AI often gets the simplest prompts wrong

like, in my Dragon Spirit images, I specified that the princess is "pointing forward with her right hand" and still got some left-hand pics...
But it was easy to solve just by flipping the images

I really shoulda done that for some of my Link pics to make him a lefty. Seems so obvious in hindsight.

There have been a few AI generated things Ive made where my instruction is to have two people in it, and gave Guy A saying Hello! but it insists on making Guy B saying it so Ive just manually touched up the pic to have the speech bubble pointing to Guy A instead.
