I don't know if brutal = evil all the time, but he's definitely the former.

He literally described himself as the "I'll-intent". Idk if the comics version is pure evil or not, but the Netflix version described himself in that way.

While I don't think we're going to get the WOKEpin, why? He is a literal comic book villain. Having him be the one meting out vigilante justice just seems silly.

...well i thought its in-character for kingpin to do this:
Its Maya
Kingpin ruled the streets before hes wherever he is now.
Violence is how he expresses himself
He didnt settle being ruthless, its his nature

He beat the life out of a man all for committing the offense of being an asshole, and then went up to the girl like he was some kind of hero.

He's not exactly a saint here, he's still a psychotic monster. There was nothing good or noble about what he did. He's still far from being woke lol

Considering he's doing it expressly to manipulate someone into doing his bidding I don't think it's that silly. That's pretty villainous IMO.

I guess to make him slightly more like the "honorable mafia" nonsense trope? I'm not the biggest Spider-Man fan, but seems like a weird characterization. Maybe if he had the guy just shot in the head right there by one of his goons or something, but feels off doing it himself as if he's just some random street thug.

He's manipulating Echo.

Season 2 really derailed things. Season 3 got back to basics, but the mini-universe was starting to die by then.

I'm no expert on Spider-Man lore, but isn't helping someone for pragmatic reasons still in character for Kingpin?

It makes sense if he's looking for an excuse to beat someone up or if he somehow conflates making fun of a Deaf person with his own history of being ostracized for his weight. If he's doing this genuinely, I guess that depends on what this particular incarnation of Kingpin is like.

There have been times where he's been a Vito Corleone type who holds power and does evil things, but isn't 100% evil. Then there are other times where he'd laugh if he watched puppies drown. Whether or not this is in character for him depends on what this specific version is like.

It's in character for most mobster characters.

So spoilers for Echo's story here (also some spoilers for Hawkeye if you haven't seen that show yet), but the reason Kingpin murdered that guy is because he adopted Maya (Echo) and was basically showing her that he can look out for her (in the most unhinged way possible of course). Kingpin murdered Maya's father and as a bizarre last wish, he asked Kingpin to adopt his daughter and take care of her. So he did, but he also manipulated the hell out of Maya to get her to do his bidding.

In Hawkeye, Kingpin convinced Maya that it was Hawkeye that murdered her father, in an attempt to have her murder Hawkeye for him. She eventually finds out she was deceived.

I'm honestly down for an edgy MCU show on Disney Plus. Daredevil Season 1 and 3 were great. Season 2 was good, only for the Punisher part. When it was about the Hand, it started losing me.
