Despite the widely held belief that dementia is destined to rise exponentially as global populations age, experts believe that, in the developed world at least, the prospects of avoiding dementia are stronger than they were a generation ago.

A study published in 2020, which drew together multiple pieces of research to track the health of almost 50,000 over-65s, showed the incidence rate of new cases of dementia in Europe and North America had dropped 13 per cent per decade over the past 25 years a decline that was consistent across all the studies.

I do think technology use is keeping people's brains active longer.

I've always held the (untested) belief that once people hit retirement and stop using their brain actively, that it starts shutting down. Keeping your brain active should keep it going strong well into your senior year.

Decrease in smoking and better hypertension treatment is probably the biggest contributors IMO. Most dementia is vascular dementia and less smoking helps with that.

Could be part it.

May also be less exposure to certain envorimental hazards as a child/young adult(like lead and banned pollutants/chemicals) and lower rates of smoking

Maybe occupying themselves more than previous generations. That includes a standard job (which boomers have seemingly held longer than previous generations), access to more media, games, etc.

So their brains are staying strong
