Questioned about comments and actions deemed by many to be homophobic, the new Republican US House speaker, Mike Johnson of Louisiana, told Fox News his worldview was: Go pick up a Bible.

Speaking on Thursday, Johnson said he genuinely love[d] all people regardless of their lifestyle choices.

This is not about the people themselves. I am a Bible-believing Christian. Someone asked me today in the media, they said, People are curious. What does Mike Johnson think about any issue under the sun? I said, well, go pick up a Bible off your shelf and read it thats my worldview. Thats what I believe and so I make no apologies for it.

Johnson added: Thats my personal worldview.

Earlier, CNN unearthed editorials for a newspaper in Shreveport, Louisiana, in which Johnson said homosexuality was inherently unnatural, would lead to legalised paedophilia and could destroy the entire democratic system.

Legalising gay marriage, he said, meant we will have to do it for every deviant group. Polygamists, polyamorists, paedophiles and others will be next in line to claim equal protection. They already are. There will be no legal basis to deny a bisexual the right to marry a partner of each sex, or a person to marry his pet.

Johnson also called same-sex marriage, which would be made legal across the US in 2015, the dark harbinger of chaos and sexual anarchy that could doom even the strongest republic.

Also a lead architect of Trump's Stop the Steal. Might be the worst person to become Speaker since Gingrich.

A collection of unrelated books ancient people decided were holy texts is not a justified reason for anything.

Easy to believe that he has, and his local church espoused some fucked up interpretations of it.

I don't recall seeing homosexuality being linked to pedophilia or where the Bible links it to opposing democracy.

I think this type of Christian can be classified as, "Forgiveness for me, not for thee."

They don't care that the same book of laws that condemns homosexuality also condemns gambling or consumption of shellfish. They don't care that Christ taught to give one coat to your neighbor if you have two and they have none. All they want is license to go on hating and hurting others and a pardon for doing so.

It's really sad we've come back to the point he didn't just old yeller his own job with that.

A good follow up question would have been what his net worth was. And/or if he thought it was more likely a camel could fit through the eye of a needle or him personally.

One can't just say "my worldview is the bible" and be so divorced from the teachings of their so called Messiah while fanatically supporting (not to mention idolizing) people that are even moreso.

I mean, one can. They do it all the time. But it means they're grifting liars. Not holy or righteous - more like markedly amoral. My guess is his actual policy is closer to the antagonists in Book of Eli.

It's also weirdly funny to me when Christians say that. "The Bible". As if the whole of the bible is "da rules". And it's many times more hilarious when someons that's "covenant married" does it. The New Testament is like.. 20% of the bible; most the heinous shit they do and say they find their justifications for in the old testament.

The testaments really shoulda been separated at some point. Such a small change would have probably had a huge ripple effect over the centuries since.

If he means married to children - and again, I thought the bible was his world view? - he (again) needs to take a look at his own parties actions and policies.
