yay v4 is good!

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/9/0/1/AAeEKDAAE9ml.jpg

left to right: v3 resin, incomplete v3 pla, then v4 pla

it's usable, perfectly so.

i've already come up with ideas on how to improve it further, but i'm unlikely to print it anytime soon, this is fine enough. i'd have liked to add a zeon logo emboss, but that'll have to be for v5 if this one ever breaks.

What's that supposed to be? It's not bad for a start, it looks like the stuff I was making when I first started 3D printing, which was just rectangles with rectangle holes.

Maybe invest in learning CAD. I spent 5 days or so learning it and can make some professional looking stuff as a result. It's the tool used to make basically everything, so you can't go wrong.

it's a holder

so i posted it in use in the gundam topic, https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/3-poll-of-the-day/80594353#30

but to save a click

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/0/7/4/AAeEKDAAE9pS.jpg

i just made it in tinkercads website tool, i'm not confident in my laptops ability to run anything natively good enough, and while i do have an actual decent computer: r5 2600, rx5700, i don't care to turn it on and use it

and also the only reason i even got the filament printer was just for stuff like this, so rectangles are perfectly fine for me

if i need something for detail, like making a figure or a replacement gundam piece (if those things even exist, i should really look into it because i need a few things), i have a resin printer

i'd be lying if i said i didn't want every marker to have its own individual little hole to go in instead of just freeballin it in a rectangle

but i don't think i'm up for that sort of task, even though i know how to do it already. i don't have anything to very easily measure the diameter of the markers though, my calipers have been broken for a long while and i never had a reason to use them since anyways

i could stand to lose a little room here I think

other than that i don't think there's much to change on it. it is perfectly functional as is

this front tray is another story entirely. i don't like it, i just don't like it being there. functionally it is doing what it's supposed to ig

i would like to try fooling around with something hanging from the bottom of the shelf

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/0/1/6/AAfYP-AAE-m4.jpg

something could technically use the edges like a bracket since they're formed over like that. it's about a 1.5cm thick, and 1cm deep, so could definitely just slide something in there and have it be braced on both ends

just can't think of anything

i have a space here

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/b/ba170df4.jpg

and i want to utilize more of it than just what that box can handle. it isn't very long, and imo it's too tall.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/b/b08fc434.jpg

i have created this monstrosity, lets make it a bit clearer to see

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/f/fe16a00c.png

big space in the back for sponges, little space in front for sponge pieces

i know full well that i could just straight up buy a tray that looks like this, i'm 95% sure i've seen it before sans zeon letters, but whatever i'm a basic bitch

honestly if i had blue filament i'd have put zaft or earth federation

the print failed

not because of printing issues, but because i overestimated the amount of plastic meat left on the spool

now i'm unsure of how to get the leftover red filament out of the tube so that the prints bottom isn't red while the rest is white

because i can't move the extruder around to grab it, since there's nothing for it to grab to pull out, i'd have to somehow remove the tubal between the extruder and the print head, and i don't...know how to do that.

i feel like the front tray needs to be revisited

it's perfectly acceptable, but it's fragile. i didn't think that'd be an issue but it turned out to be an issue and i've had to reprint this twice now because i keep breaking it.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/9/9a641f71.png

i don't know what else much to do. just make it thicker is all i can think of but

what if it was a drawer

i don't think i have the capabilities to model a drawer thing. i figure i could make two brackets, one on each end. and for the key there would be a lip on the tray with a wall of some sort to stop it from just pulling out entirely, and the brackets are made in such a way that it slides on it and on the business end of them there would be a catch to hit the wall on the lip of the tray

this is regular drawer stuff why am i explaining it, anyways, i just don't think i'm capable of doing that.

All you have to do for a drawer is to add a concave groove in the outer case and a convex rectangle that slots into it. The you can add some kind of extrusion that will prevent it from coming all the way out without bending the plastic.

Then all you have to do is make the drawer 1-2% smaller so that it's not such a tight fit.

v2 of the front tray. it's not as long, going from 7 inches to 6 1/2, but it's also been slimmed to 3/8ths an inch, as well as the shortened a little, idk the specific numbers.

i've also thickened the walls, rounded the front edges, and added a divot to screw them in easier. i also fixed the screw hole placement, one was indeed lower than the other two, which contributed to the issue i was having with it warping like the screw holes weren't straight. it's because they weren't.

i'm hoping this version will be more sturdy, v1 is very thin to be fair, but it also stuck out too far and got hit by everything

the sad truth is that, at this point, i kind of need something in the front because

https://i.imgur.com/rRE8woU.png

this is very not great to look at

it's not unusable, for it's very much smaller than i thought it would be. it fits just the knife perfectly, and that's it. it's fine? it looks very strange, and it's smallness actually contributed to hurting me because i forgot i even put the thing on and brushed my arm across the thing, rounded edges didn't help with that issue, it was like hitting the part that sticks out from the door that latches into the jamb, but from the side that doesn't make it slide into the door.

v3 is just slightly larger in all dimensions. also made the screw holes larger because the original holes from the original model are smaller than the screws i ended up with and i forget entirely about resizing them

but other than that, we'll see. it's printing now.

v3 is a bust

also harder to get the knife out, cant really grab it

hmm

v1 might actually be the golden boy in terms of sizing, just thicker walls needed
