It's much closer to YGO. Or Slay the Spire.

And they could give me every card since the inception of the game and I wouldn't go back.

Only battlegrounds was anything approaching fun and even then it's not that great.

I had a control warrior deck with all gold cards and they nerfed so much shit because of grim patron I stopped playing.

A LOT of people play Hearthstone, to the extent that I'd believe more people play Hearthstone than their other games, so I'm a bit confused by their strategy, here. They aren't particularly hurting for Hearthstone players.

It uses mana like MTG, but you gain it naturally over time. You start at one maximum mana, increase the max (up to 10) each turn, and it refreshes each turn.

There are eleven classes, all based on WoW's classes. There's a pool of neutral cards which all classes can use and each class has their own set of cards. Each class has a hero power that does some kind of small effect for two mana; mages can deal one damage to anything, hunters can deal two damage to the enemy hero, priests can heal two health to anything, etc.

Classes have very rough themes, strengths, and weaknesses, though this does sometimes vary on set. Mages are about spell generation and burn damage, hunters are more about aggro and rushing down the enemy hero, priests are more about control, etc

The biggest difference between it and other card games is that this one was digital from the beginning, so it can do things other card games can't. This is most notable in card generation. For games like MTG or Yugioh, the most you can really do is tutor a card from your deck or graveyard, maybe some kind of sideboard, because you actually need the cards. In Hearthstone, there's no such limitation.

For instance, there's a mage card called Babbling Book which just gives you a random mage spell. This isn't a spell from your deck, it's literally any mage spell that's in the format you're playing. And that's a pretty limited form of card generation compared to some. There's an entire mechanic called Discover which gives you three options to choose from and lets you pick one to add to your hand. This sometimes does pull from your deck or whatever, but it's probably most common done to pull cards from nowhere.

It also lets you get past card limits. I don't really play anymore, but I think a lot of people are annoyed right now by a priest deck that can repeatedly copy Aman'thul, a big card with massive effects. You can only put one copy of it into your deck, but priests can easily play fives in one match.

The card generation does make for a fun game, but a lot of people rightly dislike it for being too RNG and hard to play around.
