Spirit Tracks or Phantom Hourglass used 2nd person for a boss fight, you had to watch Link from the perspective of the boss.

"Over the shoulder" or just plain 2d.

2nd-person is what Battletoads did for the first boss fight. One of the DS Zelda games did it too.

Would fixed camera games like the OG Resident Evil by 2nd person because you're not following the player but viewing them from a fixed external perspective?

Isn't this conceptually the same thing I'm talking about? Only difference is that the camera is focused around the ENEMY and my idea is the camera is focused around an Ally. Both are functionally the same. The focus is on an external force outside of your control.

Well thats one way of games being 2nd person

in Moss, the player takes the role of an entity observing the controlled character

in third person there are three entities, the character, the player, and the camera (the third person)

in a game where the player assumes the role of the camera but not the character there are just two entities, the character and the player/camera (the second person)

then of course first person there is just one entity, the character/player/camera

One could also make the case SPOILERS Baten Kaitos is 2nd person

I was going to make that SAME suggestion, as that one fits the description to the T of a 2nd-person game.

I also know that in Psychonauts 1, you had to make use of an ability (Clairvoyance) to locate and attack a boss character.

The number doesn't really have anything to do with entities. It's a matter of perspective. A story can be seen from the perspective of the one experiencing it, or it can be seen from the perspective of an observer who cannot interact with the story (either limited or omniscient).

The second person perspective is when the story is about you, being narrated by someone else.

Nay, as even with the camera in weird places, the focus is still on the player in all shots.

As described, 2nd person has to be from the vantage of another creature or entity (like say, security cameras).

Also lifeline isn't second person. It's third person with an unconventional control scheme.

The example I gave can still have characters besides "you" and the narrator. It's about how the story is told. If the narrator is describing how you talk to people and the things you do throughout the day in your social activities, that's SPP. If you are the narrator, that's FPP. If the Narrator is merely an observer, that's TPP. A story doesn't necessarily need characters in an actor sense. You can tell stories just by describing the activities of countries over time.

Even examples where you're viewing things from an NPC is still just a third person perspective with a fixed camera. TC described something like Overcooked but that's also just a third person perspective.

The closest thing to a 2nd person perspective view outside of narrative in games would be something like the EyeToy, because that's the literal you and not some avatar, but even that's stretching it and needlessly pigeon holing to fill in a perceived void that doesn't need filling.
