I really liked how they went about the boss fight at the end of Y4. Seemed more manageable and less frustrating than how I remember these finales going.

I've never not had the Sacred Wood Armor on Tanimura for that section since, as previously mentioned, I'd seen that before. But man it seems terrible if you don't know to do that.

That was definitely the spot I was most worried. I hadn't properly loaded up on healing and had used my last one before I was able to whittle things down so that I could take out the gunman and be more methodical.

What do you mean? The final bosses usually aren't bad. I'd say it tends to be fights just before the last boss that are worse, like Jingu or the man in black, and the final fight in Y4 is more similar to those than a regular fight, even if it's very manageable if you're properly equipped. 5's did take impressively long though

I think it was moreso there was no exhausting lead up to the fights. No scaling a tower fighting hordes of goons and mini bosses. I committed to engaging with the end and I only had to do the boss fights to be done.

Perhaps my memory is off since I have been playing in spurts over the course of five years now and am just remembering other fights that weren't the finale.

Well they basically just separated the "tower" phase from the final boss. The tower itself didn't even have you fight Katsuragi, which was weird. It's an easy way to handle the multiple protags, though.
