The Remaster has a feature that let's you auto-win any and all battles so you can just breeze through the game.

It's more like it's beautiful and relaxing.

Another World's map theme is beautiful but people sleep on Home World's theme, it's really good too!

The battle and element system is actually easy, you don't have to follow color matching. Yes you do more damage if you match the color elements to the innate element of the characters but it's not a huge difference maker that it'll change the difficulty of the game. You'll end up using the character's innate abilities more than the equipped elements.

The game also gives you a ton of AoE healing magic which you can equip to your characters to heal as much as you want and you can equip them to any level of element slots of the character. It just makes them weaker or stronger but again it's not that much of a deal breaker.

Too peaceful and doesn't match the overall theme of the game of mystery and despair.

Amazing soundtrack and visuals, i like the game play, just mediocre story tho.

Many years ago (probably on LUE rather than CE), I did a playthru of Chrono Cross immediately after Chrono Trigger and I sorta wrote down all my thoughts and how it related to CT as I played. I tried to check every little thing and I was stunned at how good of a sequel it is to a game with multiple endings that has to do with time travel. They put in little nods to CT, they account for the fact that people beat it in different ways, and overall narratively speaking I thought it was an amazing sequel to a game that did not lend itself to a direct sequel.

I get why people didn't like it as much, and I also get why some people don't THINK of it as a good sequel, but you really have to find the connections and pay close attention to see where they are.

The game has many themes, I'd hardly say it's about "despair"

Self identity, environmentalism, challenging fate, and a few others but not despair. Despair implies a complete absence of hope and I think the plot and character arcs (what little there are) kinda go the opposite direction of that.

Yeah the soundtrack is amazing. I really lived Chrono Cross as a kid. It's a shame people hate on it for not being the Chrono Trigger sequel that they wanted.

I say give it another try and don't focus so much on the element matching. It's really not a make or break system. It's everything about the combat system that makes it shine.

I disagree. The game gradually continues to get darker and darker as you play the game.

Serge dreams of a demon panther killing him
Serge gets sucked into another world where no one knows him
Finds out he is in another reality and that he's dead in it
Gets hunted by soldiers
See's that demon panther in human(Lynx) form trying to kill him
See Kid gets stabbed and poisoned
To get Glenn you have to not save her
Gets his bodied swapped by Lynx
Finds out his dad is Lynx and controlled by the Mother computer
His dad's best friend was taken to be some security guard for said Mother computer place
Has to kill his dad's best friend

I mean that's just off the top of my head. Shit gets more fucked up as you play.

I did a playthrough to get all the characters years back and liked it enough.

As someone who grew up loving CT, eventually when I played CC I was let down.

CC, to me, is a game where - the soundtrack and the art are amazing, and even though I don't necessarily like what happens to some of the CT characters, I still enjoy certain story beats and some of the lore is really interesting.

I just didn't enjoy playing the game, unfortunately. Which to me makes it not that great of a game overall.

The OST is goat, though. I still regularly listen to it if I'm at work and want to play something without lyrics that I can just have on in the background.

Interestingly enough Ive always found Another World to be a bit overrated. Very good song, but maybe not even in the top 5 of CC.
