An adult take on a show for literal toddlers is dumb. Not everything needs to pander to millennial nostalgia.

The difference is that the kid in the Barbie movie was not the average kid that grew up with Barbie. I remember jokes about killing Barney being commonplace as early as first grade. I cannot stress enough how much every child that grew up with Barney hates the show.

I don't remember ever actually watching Barney yet I loved BJ the dinosaur. I still have a plush toy of him my sister's kids play with now.

Eh I dunno if boys making edgey jokes to each other in school about a show for pre-schoolers really represents the actual demographic for it. Especially since adults were making those kinds of jokes about it too.

My wife loved it as a kid and still has her soft toy from the time.

It can't have been that much of a catastrophe considering how successful it was as a show and product.
