I spent one weekend there. And honestly, as someone who isn't into gambling or non-stop partying, I still really enjoyed just walking up and down the strip and checking out the gaudy af hotels and stuff. I'd go back.

Once when I was 12 on a road trip with my grandfather. I remember him stopping at some building and told us kids to wait in the car. He was gone for like an hour, so not sure if he was gambling or banging a prostitute.

As an adult I have zero desire to ever go back.

It was always touristy - that's the point - but way too much so now. Unless there's a specific event or show in Vegas, I'd rather go to a SoCal casino.

Reno, even.

Yes once back in the early 1990's and I hated it.

The reason I hated it is it doesn't cater for teenagers and children. If you are under 21 years old forget going there.

There was nothing for me or my younger brother and younger sister to do on the Las vegas Strip.

In saying that there were 2 highlights of going there. I got to see 'The Dunes' sign before it was torn down a couple of days later after I was there and I really enjoyed seeing Hoover Dam.

The insides of some of the major casinos are incredible. One I walked around had an entire "outdoor" shopping area with realistic painted sky/cloud ceiling and a river running through the middle of it with gondola rides.

Ya a few times. Most of my memories of that area are in Nellis afb tho cuz i had to go there for the red flag and green flag events

But I did spend some time off-base. My fave part was visiting one of the national parks and lake Meade.

Also I'm pretty sure I got roofied at one of the clubs over there man. Luckily I had people from my work watching over me.

I really enjoyed it, but really only need 2 full days there.

Once you leave the strip, you'll see things are kinda run down. It's clear most of the people living in the low end neighborhoods surrounding the strip work at the casinos doing retail, custodial, or food service jobs. Just a lot of poverty level people working as cogs for the fancy casino industry there.

The immediate surroundings areas of most big towns are exactly the same. Chicago, outer edges of LA, etc.. But the area is a lot more than just the strip. Even outside the strip, UNLV is right there. And a lot of the poverty level people dont really work in the casinos. Casinos pay pretty well and most of the positions are actually unionized. I dont think you really know about Vegas or its community

I don't. Just the vibe/assumption I made from wandering off the strip the one time I was there. Glad to know that perception was wildly incorrect.

That's the Venetian
I got lost in there for like two hours once because the fake sky is disorienting and the hallways go at angles. Also, for reasons unknown you'll follow an exit sign then it'll go to a three way split that says they all go to an exit, but two out of three loop you around back to that same split.

Anyway, I used to go for work related conferences every year. They were a lot of fun the first few times, but it got old fairly quick. It's awesome the first time though.

I mainly go for the food. Had one of the best meals of my life at Sushisamba (in the Venetian shops).

This is called the Rio Grande if you feel like googling the menu. Also pictured is a little Filet robata and scallops (off to the right. I believe all you can see are garnishes and sides) and salmon tiradito (not pictured).

Las Vegas always has amazing things to see and do. Ive been there six or seven times and tailored the experience based on who am travelling with. My favourite time to go would have to be in summer against the full heat and force of the desert. The pool parties are filthy and decadent.

Yup. Went there for a work conference as well. This vendor was having a tacos and tequila night at one of the restaurants in that spot. I also got turned around for a bit but ended up finding my way out of there by ducking out out a maintenance door.
