Alien worlds with trees and grass... tech that is in fallout..

Idk it's just kinda bland to me. Where are the ripples of ai? Where are the quantum computing effects? Where are the floating upside down dick looking mushroom bears?

I mean, development started a decade ago. AI wasn't a major point of real-life discussion, and was only theoretical to robots.

I think it was made to look recognizable with modern NASA technology, sort of like how Star Wars retains looking old.

Morrowind
Well unless you're Dune, if you want to make something set in a future that's believable you're gonna have to have ai, especially now that we have more of a grasp on it irl

They did intend for this to be a more grounded futuristic setting. Which is fine, but not for me as I prefer my space-faring Sci-Fi games to actually look futuristic and with other alien races instead of humanity being the only race out there.

I'm having a blast with it personally.

I just did a mission where I was fighting through a ship that had been captured by space pirates. The ship's reactor was fucked so the gravity kept going in and out throughout the mission which made it a very unique feeling and fun mission.

i had a zero G area that i enjoyed too, but here's the thing, after 20 hours, that was all i had to show for it. one fun "dungeon," the rest of my time was spent fast traveling and talking.

you know what i did when i got to mars? deleted messages off an office worker's computer. put up posters. found a dude some books.

WHAT THE FUCK, how did they make it boring!? why?? they could have done anything, and they made mars a boring dusty red shitball full of depressed working humans. that's not fun, that's a level of realism that is a detriment to the entire game. they set out to prove space exploration was slow, boring, and depressing, and by that metric, the game's a fucking 10/10

Starfield is like the biggest rollercoaster game Ive ever played.

-Started up the game, hated it, too many damn loading screens, same Bethesda jank
-Ended up getting into the side content and loot grind, having fun doing all the faction side quest, thinking this might be GOTY for me
-Realized how one dimensional the content is, no fun loot quest besides Mantis, Story is a bore, getting artifacts for powers might as well be a point a click adventure game, everything is broken and glitchy

Overall Id probably give it a 6/10

It's weird, it's going to be one of my GotY because of how hooked I am on it, but it is NOT user-friendly at all, and downright frustrating to figure out how the mechanics works.

Like, I don't even know what score I would give it. It's all over the place.

Thats kinda your fault for continuing to do content you find bland with those missions on Mara. Ive personally had a blast with the main story and the vanguard missions.

I had my own motivational crisis early on thinking about outposts and shipbuilding until I just decided to not do them. I never liked settlements in FO4 and skipped those too. Decided to do the same here and my enjoyment of the game skyrocketed.

I've put about 40 hours into it. It hasn't captivated at all. Usually when I start a Bethesda game. Right from the very beginning I'm hooked. Morrowind the boat, Oblivion the prison, Skyrim the carriage, Fallout 3 as a child to adult, Fallout 4 out of cryo.

And now StarField, A miner starting a new journey based on a phenomenon.

For some reason it just has never hooked me. It also really isn't that much an RPG game, sure you can make your character, play with guns or not. But choices are extremely restricted. 9 out 10 times I've HAD to make Dialogue choices I didn't want to make. And then there the fact you cant kill any one with any sort of quest attached. Regardless of the significance of the quest.

I remember I tried to kill Ron Hope right off the bat. He just seemed fishy. Sure enough you can't kill him. But then later when he reveals his attentions, "surprise". You can now kill him. Totally breaks my immersion, and had done so countless times.

ive noticed that makes me wanting to keep coming back. Is wanting to complete everything, and the addiction to keep exploring, hoping for some gratifying experience. But it's far and few between. For me this feels like a solid 7/10 and I would label it a Action/RPG/Roguelite

i wouldn't say its a bad game by any means. But it certainly oversells what it says it is. But from a marketing standpoint I just don't know how'd you label it any differently. I guess there's got to be some exaggerating.

Thats kinda your fault
i think it's the dev's fault for stuffing the game with pointless boring content like that. sure, you can ignore it, but it begs the question: why is it fucking there? how is this at all representative of a sci-fi space exploration RPG? and i agree with not being interested in the settlements and ship building. needless bloat and clutter to add to the messy UI, create even more menus to sift through, more things to keep track of, resources to clutter up your very limited inventory, more loading screens, fast traveling, etc.

i found myself asking from under layers of menus and fast travel maps, where's the fucking game?

This is where I see the disconnect in the discourse around Starfield (both in my life and on the internet). People who wanted a big exploration game with diverse planets and such are disappointed. People who want Bethesda style questlines with a space skin on it really like the game. I am in the latter camp, so I am having a blast with it.

Bethesda never set out to create a No Man's Sky or an Elite Dangerous. They have some responsibility for the fact that their advertisements made it seem like it might be that kind of game, but that is not what it is. It really is Skyrim in a space setting. The ideas are not in the flora and fauna you uncover-those are pretty incidental. The ideas are in the questlines and the main quest, which may be the best main quest line they have ever done.

I can see why people who wanted a space exploration game are disappointed, because this game is not that. I wanted and expected Bethesda quests in space, so I am quite happy.

Yeah, the game is exactly as advertised. It was never meant to be a space sim, it's just that people expected it to be one. It's just a Bethesda game in space, and that's okay.

I'm only up to lvl 5 and it's enjoyable enough but it does feel a bit soulless. all the NPCs you can't talk to are just so robotic. I keep randomly left clicking by accident shooting the ground or random buildings. and no one even flinches even if I'm in a crowd of people in New Atlantis. somehow I've managed to not hit a person yet >_>

I had to download an inventory UI mod just to make the game playable so I assume NPC mods are already made/in the works but I haven't checked
